It was hard to feel like we had privacy. The door to the bedroom was very thin and had slats in it. The room downstairs had a window looking out to where people walked and parked cars and would have been nice to have a thin curtain/shade.

The room was nice and comfortable. The shared kitchen looked well equipped although we didn’t use it. Bathroom in the main house felt clean and think we only had to share with one other room during the stay. The location is gorgeous and loved that we could swim in the nearby waterfall. Breakfast vouchers are a great, even if choice is limited.

It takes a little getting used to other guest and sharing the facilities. Everyone seemed considerate.

1st floor room was nice. Coffee was good. Liked the available refrigerator allocation and dry good storage. Showering with rainwater is grand. The exchange helpers were pleasant and helpful, and two went the extra mile cleaning the coffee press. Thank you! Very beautiful place and area. Very clean with a few complentary snacks. Jane checked in with us, making sure all was good.

Was staying for two nights and really enjoyed the house being located in the midst of the nature. While I am not a fan of shared bathrooms I have to admit that they were really clean. Communication was excellent and I had absolutly no issues getting there. I arrived after sunset and left right after sunrise and enjoyed the view from the outdoor bathroom in the morning. I did not use the facilities (citchens and grill) - however, they appeared to be clean and well maintained. Took the chance for a bath at the waterfall before driving over to Ed's Bakery to make use of the breakfast voucher. Comment: road access to Kolekole Beach Park seems to be closed for 6 years now. While I was there for Geocaching they park itself has started to decay. I liked to spot itself but I would not refer as a place to go - alternativly Akaka falls are a much better recommendation

    > the property is off-grid, so when the battery died early in the night, my CPAP shut-off, and I slept poorly the rest of the night. > no mention or warning about the several cats, at least one of whom was comfy enough to try to get on my lap, and at another point went for my breakfast bowl. for someone allergic to cats (thankfully not me), I would think it’s an impossible situation. > my kids would’ve liked to watch a little TV at night, but the House Manager had set up “residence” downstairs when we arrived. it felt like we were intruding. > comp breakfast was “okay,” but nothing to write home about.

it has an organic, coop feel that I liked. had friendly interactions with the other guests. prepped a yummy meal in the kitchen. good food storage options.

Walls are a bit thin, so if you have loud guests you are going to hear them. A small annoyance: the compost bin was dumped regularly and overflowed. The fridge was a bit grimy as well.

This is a great property that is pretty well maintained with views of the ocean. This property does not have a host on site, but the check in process (via Booking.com for me) was simple and easy. I stayed in the house section and it was wonderful. Great kitchen with very high quality cookware and stove. Note: there are no appliances (microwave, toaster) as the property runs on solar (or at times a generator).

Road options to the guesthouse aren't amazing. You will want an SUV, since the potholes might eat a smaller car.

Super cute place off the beaten path. Had lovely common spaces, cute cats, sweet private waterfall. Room was a good size. Love that it was completely off grid. Great breakfast included at the local bakery.

    loved everything!!!!

Every single thing!!! this place is magic!!! I almost don’t want to share it with anyone to keep it for myself:) but also want more people to experience the magic of it and for this earth friendly, self sustainable, beautiful small business to thrive! I couldn’t even imagine the place this amazing! if you’re looking for all inclusive high end hotel - look further. but if you want to really experience island life in its natural habitat - this off grid gem in the middle of the rainforest offers all you can need and so much more! I lack words to describe how amazing this place is. there’s 5-6 rooms in the main house where you share kitchen, living, and two bathrooms with other guests (never were any inconvenience). one of the bathrooms is open air - you have to experience it! so magical!!! there’s also downstairs kitchen for the guests who are staying in cabanas. we had a great opportunity to experience both. our first night we spent in one of the cabanas - which, when I read what it is I was cautious - hammocks - hm, don’t know how that will work out - but it was amazing! and cabanas have all you need, and are very nice and protected. there’s also two grills and a beautiful porch for your bbq nights. big territory with fruit trees that are shared with guests on season, drinking water from the filter on tap, fridge, stove, all the needed kitchen supplies, complimentary coffee, and amazing atmosphere!!! while we we’re staying in the house we got to meet 5-6 cats that hang out outside and got to know manager Aaron - super friendly, helpful and just amazing person! Thanks for everything Aaron! there’s umbrellas (we never used), flashlights, bug spray, and even coolers and snorkeling gear you can borrow. the view is breathtaking! the drive is so beautiful, that it was a highlight of every morning!!! the rainforest in all its majesty on your way to and from the place!

Nothing - it was fabulous! the only thing I would say is that you don’t want to be worrying about an expensive or low profile car on the road in and out - it’s a little rough and pot holey

The location is just divine and the hammocks so so comfortable to sleep in. It was an exceptional experience for our first trip to Hawaii - unique and such value for money.

We arrived very late in the evening (after 9pm) and the staff was not able (in conditions) to help us finding our accommodation: in particular the cabin is very far and hard to be found autonomously in the dark without detailed indications. Do not plan to arrive after dark, or be prepared to spend an hour looking for your bed.

I woke up in the middle of the night and I saw one of the best sky of Hawaii. The sounds of nature surrounding the cabanas are amazing. A taste of real wildness in a cozy accommodation

Not the easiest place to get to - had to drive through a ravine.

bikes can be borrowed but were in a bad shape and cannot be used in reality, ton of mosquitos near watterfall...good to know before you go there for the first time :D. At least one electric socket would be nice in cabana (electricity is there so it is not a huge problem. Almost no shops /groceries nearby even in Honomu, can be a problem without a car.

I was so surprised! I was little scared about my back to sleep in a hammock...BUT I havent slept that good and felt so fresh in a morning in YEARS. Staff was so nice, little patch of old forest nearby, waterfall. Can be access from Hilo by bus FOR FREE. just a short walk from Honomu. Chockolate famr nerby worth to visit, ..a lots of staff can be borrowed for free (water shoes, snorchel , beach chair etc..) Magical outdoor shower. Would deffinately come again if on big island, but this time maybe with a car :)

The shared kitchen and bathroom is just downstairs and very convenient. You can see clear stars and sunrise when it's not cloudy. Most importantly, you cannot beat the price
