Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The WiFi in the room wasn’t very strong so we couldn’t watch tv.
The building is historic and charming and the location is excellent. The breakfast was good and the staff were friendly.

Beautiful old hotel with a lot of history. Close to everything. Parking and breakfast included. Parking is very difficult in Salem, so this made things easier for our girls weekend.

The bed was ok, I like a firmer mattress, but the bed could use an update, older cheap brass coated metal frame

February can be cold in MA. There were additional blankets but not very warm (fleece?) and the bathroom had not heat. I understand old Victorian homes are not efficient and we love their charm.... No worries...
The family suite was very convenient and charming. We had a working fireplace. The kitchenette was very useful suited with everything one needs.

In reading other reviews, it seems some rooms might be more luxurious or offer more amenities, such as a jacuzzi tub. But our supposedly haunted room did the trick, so to speak. The stairs up to our room were quite narrow as one would expect in an old property, but they did have something like a luggage dumbwaiter to get luggage upstairs.
We were able to check in quite early, which is always nice to get settled in before you go out exploring. Our room had old-fashioned decor but the bathroom was modernized. After checking in, we read about the hotel and saw that we might be in the most haunted room in Salem but certainly in the hotel(W17), if that's something you wish to avoid or are drawn to. It was mostly an uneventful night regarding the supernatural, but the clock radio alarm went off at midnight on New Year's Eve and again a few minutes later, according to my wife, as I was asleep. The bed was comfortable. There was a small fridge and no microwave in our room. A very nice complimentary breakfast with several choices was offered in a cool basement area. Contactless check-in and out is very convenient. Great location within easy walking distance of virtually all major attractions and numerous restaurants and bars.

The parking was a little inconvenient. The weather was not cooperating and walking 3-4 blocks with luggage wouldn’t make me happy. We only needed one night for parking- luckily but for future stays, it’s something to think about.
Excellent location, very friendly staff. The amenities were wonderful- breakfast included. The afternoon wine is nice, we didn’t get a chance to partake in it though.

There really wasn't anything I didn't like. I guess if I had to choose something, the street that borders the Inn can often be noisy with cars constantly honking at one another, but that's no fault of the Inn. Plus, I'm sure some of the rooms farther back are spared of these noisy pedestrians.
The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the room, along with the rest of the Inn, was incredibly clean. My fiancé and I had such a great time that we've already been in talks of going back next year!

The building had an incredible amount of charm and history. The staff was very friendly and accommodating about my dog. The back garden is a lovely spot for breakfast.

Walking distance from everything!! Staff was very helpful. Breakfast was great. The breakfast staff were fantastic! Comfortable beds. Clean room. The text reminds you of breakfast and asking about cleaning. Just over all the best travel experience.
