Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomAll three bedrooms had a draught coming in from under the radiators and no double glazing. There weere no controls for the radiator in one room, all three rooms had a broken drawer. Also the tap to the cistern in one room had a leak.
Location and reception staff were excellent.

United KingdomThe elevators were an embarrassment, serious upgrade required, I understand such upgrades will be massively expensive in a city like New York but I think it would be a huge improvement. The bunk beds in our room were in very poor condition with both beds being on an angle meaning you were constantly feeling like you were rolling off, a support was missing from the upper bunk meaning my son and I had to rig the ladder in such a way as to support the bunk.
The Gallivant is in a perfect location for tourists like myself, close to all the standard tourist destinations. There are excellent restaurants of all kinds surrounding the hotel.

United KingdomThe room was small. We were in a room with 2 single beds and there was not much room for opening suitcases etc. Our keycard for the room stopped working twice but was soon sorted by the staff. When we arrived the a/c unit was on which was v noisy and cold. However ,again , this was soon rectified by the staff. I imagine trying to sleep with it on would be difficult. There are only 3 small lifts but we never waited more than 5 minutes
Great location at a good price. Having read some of the reviews I was a bit dubious and first impressions were not great but the staff were helpful, the beds were comfortable and the shower was great.

United StatesThere was things broken in the room upon arrival(i.e. lamp, drawer, and sink) and when I told it to the workers there they said they already knew and that I could switch rooms but it could just be more of the same, or I could take the money for my reservation there and just go somewhere else.
The location and when I asked for a mini fridge in the room that I rated they got me one in a relatively timely manner.

IndonesiaThe door to our room seemed like it would break down soon. The toilet got clogged from time to time. The safe deposit box didnt work at first. But in the end, they sent someone to fix everything so all good.
Whenever we had an issue with the room, they were fast to handle and fix it. In terms of location, it's very strategic, close to everything we wanted to visit.

United KingdomThe hotel lobby and elevators were shabby and worn, and despite being on the 14th floor, twice we gave up waiting for the lift to arrive and took the 14 flights by stairs. The reception staff were mildly disinterested. The room had an exercise bicycle in it for reasons unknown. There was no hairdryer in the room, and the tv did not respond to the remote controller. None of these problems were able to be fixed unless we were in our room. So we elected not to curtail our trip to NYC waiting for maintenance to call, and thus the issues were not resolved. The window blinds were no match for the neon flashing lights of Midtown Manhattan. There was no fitness room, despite that being in the blurb on Booking.com. There was a school group staying from the UK - an excellent choice of hotel for a school trip, but in all respects the Gallivant Times Square is in dire need of investment - even a coat of fresh paint would lift spirits! Avoid unless happy to slum it. Great location.
The rooom was clean and spacious. The shower was hot and powerful.

CanadaIt’s an old hotel that has seen better days, it needs a Renovation, TLC, a deep clean. My TV was broken I asked for 3 days about it until they finally told me it was broken. I had to wait 4 days to get someone to turn the heat down as the temp was busted and I was a boiling lobster. No table to lay out your luggage. No kettle. All but two front desk staff were rude and dismissive. No wifi on my floor. They said they would give me a refund via this booking.com however I have heard nothing. I also feel that booking.com should be more aware of the true state of the hotels they represent to the public. It’s practically fraudulent to advertise the old photos of a run down building. I saw and met many disappointed guests. The elevators are so slow they need a tune up. The hand rails in the stairway needs to be tightened. The whole place needs an overhaul. I was being generous as the two nice front desk agents were good to me. However if I had to I would have never booked here I was also concerned and worried about bugs the whole time I was grateful the worn out and worn through carpets were not also in the room. So yes I feel I was incredibly misled and way overcharged. I would not recommend this hotel or your site booking.com as now I don’t trust your honesty. By misleading the client it shows a lack of integrity.
Two of the main front reservation staff were lovely. One named Tony and a wonderful lady with pink glasses ( name?? ) The bed was ok comfortable The housekeeping were nice Fabulous location

United KingdomThe hotel was absolutely filthy. Our room didn’t look like it had been cleaned in weeks. When we arrived I took my jumper off and sat it on the chest of drawers, when I picked it back up it was covered in dust. I dropped a black hair bauble on the floor and when I picked it up it was also covered in dust. There was absolutely nothing clean about this hotel. When we asked to move room I was told that I’d be put in an even smaller room and that it was pointless because the room was apparently worse than the one we were in. I’d read so many mixed reviews about here before we got there but decided to stick with it…….as soon as we got there we wish we’d gone elsewhere.
The location of the property and just how comfy the bed was.

United StatesThe hotel is not as upscale as others I have stayed in, but it was a good value for the price. The TV remote was not working properly, so the desk clerk said she would send someone to my room to fix it. No one came.
The hotel and room were very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location is excellent. It is in the theater district and close to Times Square. Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby.
