Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIn all honesty, the place is a little faded -- a grand old lady in need of a bit of refurbishment.
Fantastic location and I paid to upgrade to the Graham Greene room.

ThailandWe tried contacting the hotel via booking.com to ask for early check in, but received no response. Arriving on an early train after an 18 hr journey, we would have appreciated a warmer welcome. Early check in was refused which was understandable but could probably have been communicated with more compassion. We were also unaware the breakfast closed at 9.30 am the next day, and as we were so tired, missed it - and several staff simply carried on clearing up and ignored us when we arrived (luckily one waiter did the opposite and rushed to serve us eggs, bread and fruit). Honestly there was nothing bad about the service but we have received much warmer welcomes at half the price elsewhere.
We chose to stay here for the history, the location and the beauty of the building, and we were really happy on all those counts. Most of the staff were very friendly - special thanks to the waiter who quickly rushed to set us out some breakfast despite us arriving after it closed. The hotel still retains its charm, but with a certain severity. It was pretty much exactly as we expected and we were really content with our choice

United KingdomI booked garden view room with bath and balcony. On arrival we were upgraded to city view room with no balcony and no bath! Some upgrade. I wanted what I’d booked but was told those rooms were full. They did move us to a room with bath however. While the restaurant was lovely, the service was very slow. We asked for the bill to sign and were still waiting 20 minutes later so we went to bed. They then phoned us while we were asleep to ask if they could come up to the room and get the bill signed!!!
Excellent location, fabulous grand old hotel, loved watching the busy world go by from the outdoor restaurant.

United KingdomBefore my extensive tour of Viêtnam, I researched the U.S. Viêtnam War, read Graham Greene’s “The Quiet Man” and watched the movie starring Michael Caine. I watched “Indochine” with the luminescent Catherine Deneuve. I decided I simply must stay at The Continental when I reached Ho Chi Minh City after my North South tour of the 5Hs:- Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, HCMC. Graham Greene was a long term resident here. This is a complex review. The location of the hotel is the best! It is in the sophisticated epicentre of bustling HCMC next to the Opera House. That’s why I chose it. The staff were fabulous. As expected it is Olde Worlde faded glory, especially the vast dining room. Another reason for my choosing it. Part of its character and charm. I was automatically upgraded to a sensational balconied suite on the first floor. I could have held a dinner party and costume Ball there! Lovely Receptionist Binh Duong even shown me the Graham Greene room on the corner on the floor above and I was given the option to stay there for some of my chosen nights. I tingled with excitement but opted for my vast Ballroom Suite. Here’s the problem… Viêtnam of today is a young, vibrant, indefatigably energetic and noisy nation - in the towns and cities at least. On my first night at The Continental they were doing sound checks for a loud rave style gig in front of the Opera House which started around 8am the next morning. I checked out. The staff were lovely. Booking.com proved yet again they are “the best” online booking Company. I only had to pay for one night and easily found a quiet place not too far away. I impressed upon the Reception staff and I impress upon on you too, the reader, I was sorry to leave. It is a very Special, Brilliantly located, Iconic Hotel with fabulous, friendly and welcoming staff. Perhaps I was just tired from extensive travels as my first hotel was also very noisy outside and I was fine with that!

IrelandBreakfast needs improving in many respects. 9:30 is very early to finish breakfast for people on holiday. I cannot understand why carton juice is used in a country that has access to fresh fruit. No good quality muesli on offer and the range of fresh fruit/nuts/raisins was limited/nonexistent. This is probably the only hotel I’ve ever stayed in that didn’t have a teapot or you had to pay extra to use one. We have stayed in the Continental 4/5 times and this was the first time we’ve had reason to complain.

United StatesRoom was very large. Ac was very good... Bathroom tub/shower was good but could be dangerous for older people. No safety features. The TV ( while not a major issue) was unreliable. The breakfasts were fantastic. I would recommend staying at the Continental. Oh one thing which I found very unusual. I lost my plastic room key and was charged for a replacement I have never encountered that before...
