How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewWe loved the friendly, kind and caring staff. Who made us feel at home. The beautiful location, looking over mountains and rivers fields. The food is incredible, breakfast and dinner delicious. Our room was terrific and we loved the detox tea bath. Bed very comfortable and room everything we could have hoped for. The staff organised for a local guide to take us on a hike to the local villages which was wonderful too. Would highly recommend staying and we will visit again.

Verified reviewStunning views, clean cute and cozy accommodation, and staff were the most hospitable people we experienced in our time in Vietnam. Would definitely stay here again when visiting sapa. We did not have the best weather while we We’re there we didn’t have the best weather but the staff were very helpful in helping us choose activities suited to the weather. We did the cooking class which was great and included a tour of the markets meeting the local people. When the weather cleared they also arranged a local trek which was the highlight of our time in Vietnam.
It is a little bit out of the main town but that lends itself to the stunning views and serene atmosphere

Verified reviewThe best hotel breakfast we had in Vietnam! Dinner on arrival was also very good. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They were able to arrange transport to and from the hotel. The room was very spacious with a great view of the valley. Bed was very comfortable. Laundry quick and reasonable
Shower water does flow down the bathroom which means the toilet can get wet but they normally clean your room while you have the delicious a la carte breakfast. As an eco friendly hotel they do have a few extra rules to follow, but it’s not difficult.

Verified reviewThe property is located just outside of town, away from the hustle and bustle. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful tranquil gardens. You wake up in the morning to enjoy the beautiful mountain views, and can return after a day of trekking to relax and unwind to the sunsets painting the sky. The pool was also very refreshing with incredible views. And our room was super cozy with a nice hot shower and very comfortable bed.

Verified reviewEvery detail was exceptional. I've literally never experienced anything like Sapa Clay House before. The view from the bedroom alone might be the second best view I've ever enjoyed in my life (I love mountainous valleys). The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The activities available were fun and informative. If I'm ever in the region again, I am absolutely returning.

Verified reviewBeautiful design, decor, and grounds - nestled in impressive gardens. Loved our bamboo hut (suite). Very pleasant and accommodating staff. Casual family guest house atmosphere with high quality hotel services.
Did not like their rigid practices related to relatively little costs in context of all that we were spending with them on accommodation, meals, and services: eg - being charged for each small cup of coffee - no refill with breakfast or dinner; - being refused happy hour pricing after check out time despite two of us spending that entire 3rd day (after 2 night stay) using their expensive spa, restaurant, & transportation services and our bill remaining open until our evening departure after dinner! - being charged for an accidentally broken soap dispenser after 3 full days of giving them business.
