The facilities were run down and needed upgrading. The bathroom and bedroom fittings were old, although functional. The young crowd gathering in the entertainment area outside was rowdy, swimming until 04.00 in the morning once.

I liked the privacy of the private room with an en suite shower and toilet with a small basin. Other guests had to share dormitories. The swimming pool is right next to the room. A staff member washed my clothes for a reasonable rate. A kitchen was available for food preparation. Fridges and deep freezers were there in which to keep one's food. Coffee could be made for free each morning. There was a lounge with a TV, a bar area, a pool/ping-pong table, an outside entertainment area. There were tables and chairs for dining at inside. The room was clean.

There was a receptionist who insisted i didn't pay when checking out yet i had paid until we watched CCTV. I found this rude, unprofessional and disrespectful.

A beautiful old Victorian building but in need of some maintenance, especially the bathrooms - for my taste quite a bit run down. The men's bathrooms are only downstairs, so in case your room is upstairs, your legs will enjoy some exercise.

A typical backpacker I would say, quite a quirky place and you'll meet interesting people from all walks of life (guests and staff). Pretty quiet at night since it's located in a col-de-sac just off the main road. Super convenient access to shops, cafés, restaurants and parks - all in walking distance. You get free coffee/tea in the morning. There is a washing machine in the kitchen which is a cheap alternative to a laundry service. Super easy check-in and access to the property.

I shared a room with guys because the other rooms were full but it was my consent.

I enjoyed my stay, the kitchen was clean, the rooms and the bathrooms not to mention the friendly staff. I would definitely come back here again

Very conveniently situated if you are attending an event at the DHL Stadium. Tourist attractions nearby as well as Promenade and many restaurants and cafes.

Location and price can't be beat, old rustic building with loads of space in communal areas. Comfortable to say the least, a good place to stay overall.

Would be nice to add bedside lamps/ports to each bunk bed, even the backpackers in the rural EC have implemented that option.

Stayed in the 8bed dorm, there were about 5 of us over the 4 nights I was there. Place is walking distance to V&A, bus n taxi route. Alternative showers/toilets on the ground floor when the ones close to the dorm were occupied. The new linen is greatly appreciated as the one in 2018 was long overdue for a change.

Big Blue is situated in a beautiful building in a fabulous location. We enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend it to others. Friendly staff. A really great experience. We have stayed there many times over the years.

Dogs tend to be treated like humans by the property, they sit together with guests on the couches, sometimes they invade the rooms where guests sleep and walk around. While eating at the kitchen the dogs always await next to you.

There's nothing at Big Blue that I don't like. I love the old building.

Our room was comfortable. The location is very central and close to many sights and amenities. The staff are friendly and quite helpful. Staying there is always fun. The building is historic and very beautiful.

It is a backpacker, not a 5star hotel, so my expectations were cleanliness and safety and that I received. As well as friendly staff, and that I also received.

It is a great and convenient stay. Close to everything and comfortable. The staff tries to please everyone and we all know that it is not possible to please everyone.
