Hartford House is such a treat for us, the location, the food, the service, and the surroundings make this place our go-to overnight stay on the way to the coast or back to JHB. The gardens are beautiful and well-maintained. The whole stud farm is a wonderful place for leisurely walks.

South AfricaThe service was a little slow, we did the wine pairing with our 6 course meal and our first glass of wine was only given to us 45 mins after we sat down… our waiter said that is becuase they find that guests drink the glass of wine before the course it is paired with us served 😂. I suggested that they maybe give their guests the option to choose.Breakfast was also a slightly delayed affair… I think there is an increased number of staff but this doesn’t necessarily equate to efficiency. I asked for my scramble eggs to be cooked a little more owing to the egg whites being undercooked for my taste and it was evident that they were put in the microwave for a minute or two and brought back to me 😂😝 We still had a great time and venue is exceptional. I believe just teething issues with newer staff. Food and wine were excellent.
The property has been renovated to a great level. Beds and pillows and entire bedrooms are perfect and so comfortable. The location is excellent to help one unwind and relax.

An exceptional gem! From the exquisite rooms to the glorious grounds, even in the aftermath of a dry winter the space is enchanting and charming. Food is a wonderful celebration of classic dishes with unexpected twists. Everything so meticulously thought out and yet you feel as if you have stepped into another version of home. Most of all the wonderful staff, not enough praise can be given for the warmth and friendliness extended to guests which just makes the whole experience that much more special.
