How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

The entrance was a smelly swamp thru which we had to navigate n the following morning -we had to even navigate thru dog poo.The room was cold,the shower slippery ,the decor on walls hazardous ,2 non absorbent bath towels provided n when we asked for more the foll morn we were told we will give u later in the day.We had really had enough and chose to forfeit out monies and find something decent.The area is also not easily accessible frm the Arts Festival having had to traverse the main roads in the mist n dark making it hazardous -almost knocked a cow.

I am unsure what “smelly swamp” you are referring to, as our sewage system is located at the bottom of the property, far from the rooms. The shower is a modern wet room, tiled with non slip tiles and is in no way hazardous. All wall displays are securely fixed and definitely not a safety concern. We are centrally located in Hilton, in a residential area, so I am unsure where you were travelling to that involved “almost hitting a cow.” The room is equipped with a wall heater, blankets, and good-quality towels, which we believe are more than adequate for a comfortable stay. Unfortunately, the room was left in a very untidy state upon your departure. We also kindly request that you return the items taken from the room that did not belong to you. Based on this experience, we would not wish to host you again in the future.

Verified reviewWe liked the cleanliness and the comfort of the open plan area. The host was also very kind. The braai area was great!
There were no dish cloths, a sharp knife, stove to make meals, glass shower door since water splashed everywhere.
Thanks for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. If you had read the amenities you would have seen that there was no stove specified. If you needed anything extra, all you had to do was ask and it would have been provided.

Verified reviewWe chose not to stay although we had paid for a night. The road getting there was poorly maintained (unfortunate for the venue and unexpected in Hilton). The driveway was very steep and we didn't feel comfortable driving down or the possibility of slipping up it if the road was wet it in our electric car. There was no easily visible buzzer outside the property and I didn't receive an answer to my email requesting assistance (understandable, but there was no easily accessible contact number on the site or my booking confirmation).
I tried to contact you requesting a checkin time and you never responded. I waited and waited as I could not get in touch with you. No email was received from you. Our driveway is concrete and in perfectly good condition. As for the gradient, you do drive down into the property but the parking is on level ground. Had you been nervous to drive down we would have assisted you. I must also say that having not actually entered the property, your views are unjustified. If you look at our reviews, our guests enjoy their stay nobody has ever complained about the driveway.
