How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Verified reviewThe food at Kwafubesi was excellent. Of the best i've had at any lodge. Most of the staff were lovely. Ambience very nice. Beds big and comfortable with beautiful fresh linen.
The plumbing needs serious attention in the tents. The bath literally trickles and took 30 minutes to run a small bath. Bathrooms pretty outdated and need renovation. Ranger was quite knowledgeable but enjoyed talking about himself a little bit too much. At the drinks stop he first used the bathroom (no problem), then spent 10 minutes at least setting up drinks table and decorating it with branches and flowers, then taking photos for another while, and only then did he go about getting his guests a drink.

Verified reviewThis was our second visit to Kwafubesi and it did not disappoint. The tent was comfortable, staff helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed all the game drives. Hope to make a return visit again one day.
There was little time between the final morning game drive and the required check out time so we were unable to shower and change, as we had hoped to, before leaving for our 2+ hour drive to Johannesburg.

Verified reviewThe best thing about Kwafubesi would be Nikita the Manager she goes above and beyond to ensure Customer Satisfaction, Ethan is exceptional and the most pleasant Game Ranger also constantly going above and beyond, and Anna the Chef - this woman performs miracles in the kitchen - they are all true assets of Kwafubesi and if they weren't a part of our experience I truly believe that it just would not have been what it was. The shower in the luxury tent is awesome! Word of advice - don't pack snacks they supply an excessive amount of food - you are never hungry, however if you like good coffee it might be worth packing your own preferred brand - they offer sugar and milk - your own coffee would just help to kick start your day the way you enjoy it yourself. If you drink something specific I would recommend contacting them before leaving and enquiring if they stock it before hand so you can get what you need before you get there as your vehicle won't be accompanying you to your accommodation so quickly running out to get what you need isn't an option. The stars are phenomenal to view on the property and you can see the milkyway clearly at night. And the game drives gives the opportunity to see South Africa's Big Five up close and personal.
If for any reason you encounter an Abigail be insistent on taking all your luggage as I truly feel she could have been more accommodating - as our very first experience she created a very bitter taste of the establishment upon arrival - we learnt that she is still new and still has a lot to learn so we are forgiving but she was the reason that Nikita and MJ had to work twice as hard on our first night to rescue our review. The property can only accommodate a limited amount of people at any time which is wonderful if you want a romantic weekend away - the reception area where meals are served in my opinion remains too small regardless of the limited guests with everyone being to close to each other - Nikita however accommodated us by having a table taken to our tents porch and all our meals being served there. The bath is big enough for one if you are big or small but as a couple to bath together it would only work if you are small enough - the shower either way is exceptional and recommend it as a couples activity. The bed is comfortable if you are short enough - my husband is 1.83m and I am 1.72m and we had to sleep diagonally every night as we where restricted by the beds frame which was slightly uncomfortable. The toilet needed several flushes to work even for tp nevermind anything else, I do think plumbing maintenance is advised. The game drives are wonderful if you get Ethan, just bare in mind there's 2 drives per day and you are advised to rush to the Cruiser if you hope to sit next to your partner and not seperately due to limited seating which isn't ideal if you planned a romantic trip and use the bathroom before hand the drives are 2 and a half hours long. If you want to book horse riding make sure you are under 90kg as it is a limitation.

Could have been clearer about the directions or location on the website. Guest should be told to drive to main lodge and then transport will be provided to camp.

Verified reviewAbsolutely everything was amazing. The fact that they kept us busy, with food and safaris was great and the safari guide/driver (MJ) was thr best.
I liked that everything was all inclusive and I do understand the timing surrounding the stay but the price (at least for a local) was just a bit too much.

Verified reviewThe Food was AMAZING Especially Johannes, he made the BEST food on Friday night!! 🤩🤩 it was so peaceful and seeing the whole pride of Lions was the Highlight of the Trip, thanks to Ethan for going above and beyond on our game drives!😁
The communication from the Staff could be improved a little, as we were unaware of the guided safari walks, but we were informed of other activities 😊 other than that the staff were very polite and wonderful 😁 Maybe also spray the rooms when closing the curtains with a bit of room spray to keep some bugs out, but the ambiance was amazing 🤩

Verified reviewThe team at Kwafubesi were absolutely amazing. MJ, Nakita, Johannes, Margret, Elliot and Anna made our stay unforgettable. MJ spent endless hours answering all sorts of questions about the animals, Forna and flora. Nakita made sure we had everything we needed and booked all experiences. Johannes and Anna made exceptional meals even with are long lists or allergies and intolerances we have. Margret and Elliot kept everything spotless which is super hard in the bush. Our tents were a pleasure to be in. Always clean and tidy. Overall one of our best family holidays. Thank you 🙏
The baths and showers need some attention.
