Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Was a little aware of impact o other guests due to our late artival.
Spacious rooms, clean and comfortable. It was an older accomodation but lots of care taken to make our stay value for money. Host was great for a last minute booking and accomodated our late check-in due to gross underestimation of travel time on our part. We got the rest we needed, before taking on the next part of our journey!

Barry was so helpful and did his very best to ensure our stay was comfortable. He added a microwave to our room and let us check out a little later. The location is great too.

I have 3 complaints: 1. I was told when i arrived that the breakfast needs to be booked separately at an extra cost. I have never heard of a Bed and Breakfast that does not include breakfast in the price. 2. The step down into the bathroom. There should be tape or some sort of warning. I fell into the bathroom. 3. There is no bathroom light switch - just a pull cord inside the bathroom. I suggest it is moved to outside the bathroom as i left the bathroom light on all night so that I didnt fall again.
I did not get breakfast. The location was good and the bed was extremely comfortable. Good shower with hot water.

The floor had old patches, they need to tile the floor or put a huge rug to cover the whole floor. The room was also cold and they didn’t have heaters and electric blankets
The staff was friendly, the owner also gave us time after check out time to wait for our transport and they had to prepare the room for the next guests. Beds were comfortable, sheets clean and all

Everything was good.
My family and I had a good stay at Selborne Bed & Breakfast. Jemma communicated with me before we arrived and we were welcomed with a smile. She was a good host and allowed my family and I to invite a couple of my family members for a celebratory lunch as I had graduated. The B & B has a great dining space and lounge big enough to host about 10 to 12 visitors. I was happy with their service.

We unfortunately had to return to Durban one day ealier. We tried to contact the same lady without success. she gave us a number of a different lady to telephone if we could not reach her. This lady was quite rude and said that she could not open the premises as the electicity cables had been dug up, of which there was no evidence outside Selborne! I have sent an sms and an email to Selborne regarding this matter, and have as of today not recieved any response from them. I am now forced to purchase new spectacles at a cost of R3750.00. this invoice will be forwarded to Selborne to settle. They could have courriered the glasses to me and I would have paid. I have video footage of us waiting outside the premises. if you need this I will email it to yourselves.
Being told by the lady that booked us in that after we left, that I had left my spectacles in the room. for which I thanked her. I told her that I would retrieve the glasses when we returned on the 27th September.

No designated parking lots in a small driveway. The smoking area is close to the breakfast area.

No loadshedding schedule given for out of towners, I suggest an whatsapp or sms to clients on period of stay
Location off the main stream and close proximity to N2 for travel. Found easily. Bedding good and bed very comfortable. Fresh milk for coffee appreciated.

There was no furniture in the bathroom and everything needs to lay on the floor in the bathroom! we were 2 people and it was not good to through everything on the floor!
