  • We were made to feel very welcome by Caron the owner who showed us to our room which was lovely, warm and cosy. Caron also helped us with recommendations of places to try for our evening meal. The breakfast was excellent. We were only booked in for one night for our wedding anniversary but we will definitely return and hopefully stay longer next time.

  • The bed was extremely comfy and the room was nice and warm and it looked as if it had recently been re-painted to a high standard. Also, we were very kindly offered free breakfasts for the duration of our stay as we were celebrating our 39th Wedding Anniversary that weekend. This gesture was very much appreciated!

  • First class accommodation Nice little kitchen, with top quality appliances.Everything in hotel is of highest quality. All staff really great. The cleaning staff are first class everything spotless. The hotel is in an excellent position .A short walk from station and plenty good restaurants around It was our wedding anniversary and we received flowers and cakes on returning to our room Really appreciated this. How well restored were the castles in Carlisle?

Carlisle Castle is intact with excellent displays about the part it played in the Scottish border wars, but the Army still uses part of the grounds and some areas are off-limits. Nearby Brougham Castle is an evocative ruin, but you are able to climb most of the way up the tower and the interpretative info is fascinating.
The castle is great and the guidebook is worth the £3. All the staff are very enthusiastic and fun to talk to. We saw the military re-enactment camps and drills whilst we were there - very entertaining :)
Te castle is in pretty good condition. parts of the castle is home for a modern day regiment.
Part of the castle is still being used by the military, not many can say that!
