The grounds were beautiful and spacious, as was the room, though it definitely showed some wear. Each meal we had was varied and delicious/interesting, with many different things to try. We loved the in room onsen and the views. The ryokan is located in a lesser visited area, so the area was very quiet and chill - more "small town" feeling (which we liked). We took the nearby cable car to the Mt Fuji viewpoint, which had great views and was uncrowded on a weekday.

set up on top of the hill, I loved the location and view of the rooftop open air onsen. also, the breakfast buffet was very good and I’ve had a few Japanese hotel breakfast buffets after living here for 6 years.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. When I asked the restaurant staff which items were Halal/Vegetarian/seafood, she asked a senior staff member who proceeded to explain each buffet item one by one to explain the ingredients and check if it suited my diet (not having pork or non-halal meats). Moreover, when knowing that my options were somewhat limited, the restaurant staff ensured to share with me the upcoming buffet items on the following days which did suit my diet. I already went to the hotel knowing that my options were limited, but the staff exceeded my expectations by ensuring that we were taken care of. It's worth noting that the food was delicious. They had a dedicated staff member taking family photographs of guests by the water terrace. these are just a couple of examples where staff members put the customers as their highest priority. We also loved the spotless clean rooms and facilities, various dedicated slippers available (hotel room slippers, hotel area sandals, bathroom sandals, private balcony/Onsen crocs). The vending machines, free coffee, gift/shop, proximity to public transportation were quite convenient too.

Syukaen Yunohanazen enjoys a location in Atami, 17 miles from Hakone-Yumoto Station and 18 miles from Shuzen-ji Temple. The 4-star ryokan is a 14-minute walk from Atami Sun Beach.

The dinner and breakfast were wonderful.

Oni no Sumika is a recently renovated ryokan in Izu near Shuzen-ji Temple. With a garden, the 5-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free Wifi, each with a private bathroom.

The staff was very nice and helpful. The private bath was fantastic with an open garden! The room was very comfortable and spacious with a garden view. Very pretty. I would have stayed longer.

The evening meal was a delicious curated seasonal multi-course menu, with tender wagyu beef as the highlight. The staff were so attentive even though we had very limited Japanese. And of course the room, onsen and view were amazing.
