Excellent location near Takayama station, attentive staff, great onsen facilities and breakfast. There isn't much to do in Takayama after a certain hour in Winter but that is ok, since the ryokan has a very inviting area where you can relax, read, try calligraphy and origami, have some tea... I left my mobile phone in the room and enjoyed the entertainment provided there, completely agnostic of the outside world. Great way to disconnect!

If you’re visiting Takayama, you MUST stay here. We had the most wonderful stay with the most wonderful hosts. I travel for work often, domestic and international, and typically stay at 4 and 5 star hotels. This is definitely among my favorite stays in my travels! We arrived shortly before check-in time and were greeted with tea, a snack, and warm blankets. The host sat down and showed us a map of all the best attractions in Takayama while we drank our tea. Our room and the entire ryokan were immaculately clean (very important to me) and super cozy. I actually looked forward to going back to the room each night to spend time near the coals or under the heated blanket table (the room has great AC and heat by the way). They also provided plenty of Japanese snacks, coffee, tea, incense, and even origami. The real reason you should stay here is because of the hospitality of the hosts and uniqueness of the experience. They were so happy to see us each time we arrived back at the property and were willing to answer any questions we had along the way. It was a treat to see them each day! Breakfast was included each day and you can choose a traditional Japanese style breakfast or a western style breakfast. I highly recommend trying the Japanese breakfast at least one day! It was intimidating for a westerner but is quite delicious and the staff will guide you through the whole experience. The onsen was perfect, so relaxing, and very clean. We went at the end of each day around 9 PM and there was no one in the onsen so it was basically private! The property is intimate and you don't need to worry about a lot of folks using the onsen at once. One note, the property is about a 20 minute walk from the main Takayama area but that wasn’t an issue for us. In fact it was perfect. It was so nice to wander through the side roads getting into and out of town. In fact, we came across more than one restaurant or sake brewery by just wandering around.

- The staff. Awsome. Simply awsome. The woman in charge of bringing the food to my room was the best. ( i forgot to ask her name) At check out she even followed me outside to tell me goodbye (until i turned the corner). I apperciate so much my stay thanks to her. - Cosy ryokan, traditional ambiance, feels very private. So if you need some relaxing time its the best here. - Big room with a balcony and a traditional japanese feeling. - Big private onsen in the room. Could fit 2 easly - Dinner and breakfast in your room. - nice amneties in the room. - Ultra modern toilets. - Staff goes to great lenght to help you and communicate with you. I totally recommend this ryokan if you are in the area.

We stayed in this hotel for only one night, the day before heading to the Takayama Spring Festival. What can I say? I wish I stayed there longer. This wonderful ryokan is near others in a remote location in the Japanese Alps, about an hour and a half drive from Takayama. It's super easy to reach it with the bus departing from the Takayama Station (although there are not many departing each day, so I recommend studying the schedule well and arranging the trip well in advance). The ryokan is wonderfully restored, offering all the modern comforts while maintaining the mysterious vibes that you would expect from such a place. There are only about 10 rooms, each of large size with the traditional futon beds prepared before sleeping. Most importantly, each room has its private outdoor hot spring bath. Besides the private hot spring baths in each room, the ryokan also has two common hot springs that one room per time can occupy. The only small complaint I have is that when we were there (April 2023) there were some workers on the opposite side of the garden who could very clearly see into the hot spring, so we didn't use them. I strongly recommend building a bamboo fence or something similar to ensure privacy. The reservation also includes one dinner and one breakfast, which are both amazing, both as a setting and as food quality. During our staying there we also managed to go for a hike in the nearby mountain and try a local izakaya down the road, both fun experiences!

The ultimate choice for an authentic Japanese Ryokan experience! We had a room with Tatami mats and futon beds, a private bathroom and we got to wear Yukatas in and out of the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helped us with whatever we needed and breakfast was also great (Both the Japanese and European one). The Train and Bus stations were just 2 minutes walking distance. Thanks for everything!

Traditional Japanese Ryokan with nicely decorated rooms. This was my first Ryokan experience and I have never felt as well cared for as during my stay there. Futon was very comfortable, too (I have never slept on one before). Staff is very attentive and helpful. Great inhouse onsens. Yukata were available for free for guests. Many ammendities were available for free and I loved their shampoo. Takayama old city center is just a 15 min walk away. Takayama station is just 6 min away by foot.

Vegetarian traditional breakfast was offered upon request! We loved it and our whole stay at this traditional Ryokan! The Onsen is not too hot (still hot haha) and super relaxing. There are even two private Onsen available free of charge (min. 2 people). The rooms are very beautiful and quiet and you’ve got the opportunity to wear Yukata during your stay. Food is the highlight here. Both of the breakfasts I had were wonderful feasts, with warm dishes cooked on little burners at the table. One had crab, beef and tofu stew, eggs, bacon, sausage, all in one meal. The onsen are great. Staff are friendly. All the usual trappings of a Ryokan are here, sandals, tatami, yukata, keys with huge blocky keyrings
