Even before we arrived, communication was so helpful. Our room was beautiful and spacious. We were attended to perfectly throughout our stay by Hoshino who spoke excellent English, was so well-organized and absolutely charming. He even accompanied us back to the train station to be sure we got our departure tickets.

We liked the convenience of the elevators and large room size. The indoor and outdoor baths were very nice and we really enjoyed all of the options for hair and body washes, masks, and special creams. We especially liked the big outdoor bath with waterfall and wisteria vines: so glad we went to the baths several times as they change gender at cleaning time.

Bit of a hike up a fairly a steep hill (15-20 minutes), glad we are light packers! Beautiful entry and welcoming staff. No one speaks English very well, but they try really hard to make one comfortable. Good clean, very hot water in Onsen. Quiet, with few people in the water. Excellent multi-course traditional Japanese food were served for breakfast and dinner (called "half board"). A short walk to the very small village. Surrounded by good collection of other places to eat. Liquor store across the street. Went hiking to the numerous and beautiful temples and shrines nearby.

Absolutely my standout stay in Japan, a place I have both lived and travelled to more than a dozen times. Besho Onsen Midoriya is a beautiful modern Ryokan with private hot spring baths set in the most tranquil of settings. I particularly loved the Kaiseki set course dinner and of course the provided breakfasts. I will be back!

The staff was very attentive, the person from the reception desk overheard us talking that kids need water and brought it even without asking. The ryokan has a 150 years history and you can feel it. Beautiful view from the women's rotemburo, I recommend going at dawn. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic.

Bessho Onsen is a magic place just outside Ueda, full of lovely temples and hot springs. This Ryokan fully embraces the vibe of this little village and offers good facilities in an amazing surroundings. The hotel is pretty old, which gives it a nostalgic feeling. But it is perfectly kept and with all the amenities you should wish for. A lovely room, amazing gardens, very good indoor and outdoor hot springs and a very very good restaurant. We had the best breakfast of our entire trip there! Last but not least the staff is absolutely lovely.
