Bed was comfortable. And the traditional japanese breakfast was amazing!
I would come back again! And hopefully I shall!

This 4-star ryokan offers luggage storage space and bicycle parking. The ryokan has parking on-site, a hot spring bath and full-day security. We're very happy that we selected Hidaya as our first ever ryokan experience. The staff was lovely, instantly made us feel at home and helped us to get the most of our short visit to Takayama (recommendations, taxi and restaurants booking, yukata rental and much, much more). The Japanese style breakfast was delicious and varied from day to day. The place is very charming and well maintained. The small hot bath was a very nice addition that we've used multiple times. It's located quite far from any attractions so a car/taxi is your best bet but it can be reached on foot within 10min from a nearby bus stop and around 30min from the historic center. Highly recommended! Takayama was definitely a highlight of our trip and Hidaya was big part of it. Thank you for your hospitality!

The 4-star ryokan features river views and is 47 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. The ryokan offers rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. Shiroyamakan is located right in front of a bus stop, next to the main street of the ghasso village, so the location is excellent. The owners are lovely and try their best to speak English and are open to talking via translator too. We arrived a bit late, but the owner waited for us and took us for a ride around the village, talked about important landmarks and took photos of us in the viewing spot overlooking the village. Ryokan has two new, beautiful private hot baths, so I was able to take one with my husband. Another highlight of the stay was dinner - I didn't expect it to be a two hour 10-course meal! Since there are only four rooms, staff is able to talk to each table and explain what is served. When it comes to the room, we stayed in a 150-years old traditional room with futons and an inside balcony. The room was clean, had AC and a small fridge, the atmosphere was excellent. Breakfast was smaller, but still beautifully served and delicious. After check out, hosts taken a picture of us in front of the hotel and let us store our bags inside until the afternoon. Everyone was so lovely, staying at Shiroyamakan was an amazing experience! I'd love to go back one day.

Such a perfect stay - we were blown away. The place is in a very beautiful onsen village in a quiet part of Japan. Super easy to get to from Takayama & to visit Kamikochi. The owners were so kind & accomodating. We had a huge traditional bedroom complete with futon, tea & kimono. Private outdoor onsens we could use as a couple. The food was absolutely incredible. Soooo much love & thought went into every course. It was the best meal of the trip. Thank you so much for having us!

We stayed in a tatami mat room (RM205) on the 2nd floor. The ryokan's location is great. Smooth checking. Large room. A private hot spring is wonderful.
Well appointed traditional Ryokan. Super clean rooms and comfy futons. Attached hot spring bath is intimate and cosy. Public baths were great too.. The dinner and breakfast were super delicious
The Japanese style tatamirooms are very comfortable and clean. You sleep on a futon and can use the yukata for sleeping, going to the restaurant or relaxing in your room and the hotel. The hotel is in the middle of Magome Juku and is run by nice people. If you stay here, definitely order the dinner set meal and breakfast set meal beforehand. It adds perfectly to the stay and the food is very delicious. The extra price you pay for the food is definitely worth it and good price and quality for value.
The ultimate choice for an authentic Japanese Ryokan experience! We had a room with Tatami mats and futon beds, a private bathroom and we got to wear Yukatas in and out of the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helped us with whatever we needed and breakfast was also great (Both the Japanese and European one). The Train and Bus stations were just 2 minutes walking distance. Thanks for everything!
Meals were excellent, you could tell that a lot of effort was put into the preparation and presentation of each dish. We also enjoyed the onsen, even though it was not private, no one else used it while we were there. Hospitality was also top notch with staff who took care to explain how everything worked at a ryokan and even sent us away with small gifts. The free yukata rentals were a nice touch too.
An exceptional ryokan, very helpful staff, upon arrival we received a yukata (traditional Japanese clothing) and they even allowed us to go out with the yukata for a walk in the city. Very good breakfast (Japanese or European style to choose from) The staff went out of their way to accommodate the vegetarian/gluten free meal. Onsen is very spacious, and you can also order a hot pool for private use.
Traditional Japanese Ryokan with nicely decorated rooms. This was my first Ryokan experience and I have never felt as well cared for as during my stay there. Futon was very comfortable, too (I have never slept on one before). Staff is very attentive and helpful. Great inhouse onsens. Yukata were available for free for guests. Many ammendities were available for free and I loved their shampoo. Takayama old city center is just a 15 min walk away. Takayama station is just 6 min away by foot.
Vegetarian traditional breakfast was offered upon request! We loved it and our whole stay at this traditional Ryokan! The Onsen is not too hot (still hot haha) and super relaxing. There are even two private Onsen available free of charge (min. 2 people). The rooms are very beautiful and quiet and you’ve got the opportunity to wear Yukata during your stay. We can highly recommend and would love to come back!
Food is the highlight here. Both of the breakfasts I had were wonderful feasts, with warm dishes cooked on little burners at the table. One had crab, beef and tofu stew, eggs, bacon, sausage, all in one meal. The onsen are great. Staff are friendly. All the usual trappings of a Ryokan are here, sandals, tatami, yukata, keys with huge blocky keyrings
