Very quiet. Unfortunately most of the cafes and shops closed at 4pm. Not many shops there is a Tesco, Co-op and Spar and some other little shops. We had a lovely homemade meal at a little cafe on the corner (sorry can't remember the name, too busy enjoying the food) across the road from the Spar shop. Not really much to do apart from walking along the promenade. You can go on a coastal trip on the train from the Station. I don't think we'll be revisiting however the hotel (and the little cafe) was brilliant.

Grange over Sands is well located for the South Lakes.
Grange over Sands is well located for the South Lakes. We had never been before, and we made the most of our time there.
We would recommend the Punchbowl Inn at Crosthwaite (the cheese soufflé is to die for)
We went segueing at Cartmell. Great fun and lovely people. Cartmell itself is lovely - with three restaurants owned by the Michelin starred chef Simon Rogan. We didn't eat in any of them, but I believe they are amazing.
The Manor Arms in Strawberry Down is a good, honest pub with unfussy, well-cooked food.
We came across Humphrey Head by chance. Extraordinary rock formation and a very different view.
We need more time, as there is so much more to explore!

Its a very small place but very busy with a lot of community groups including a well run marshalled cross-bay walk from Arnside to Grange-o-Sands. Its about 9 miles in all, good fun.
Great walks nearby and good train service.

Charming traditional sea side resort without arcades.
Charming traditional sea side resort without arcades. Some beautiful walks along the coast and inland. Lovely walk over Hampsfell Hospice to Cartmel, which has very good pubs and restaurants. Probably not a place to go for a bucket and spade holiday as the sands are not suitable and maybe unsafe.

Very comfortable accommodation for short stay near Grange Over Sands and very reasonably priced. Good sized en-suite bedroom with very large comfortable bed. Delicious, hearty cooked breakfast. Also had evening meal there. Good choice of pub type meals served in nice dining area with log fire. Nice pub area and reasonably priced. All staff encountered were pleasant and helpful.
Would definitely come again for similar trip.
I was upgraded to a room with beautiful bed drapes and curtains, with a French window that looked out onto an atrium. The lady on reception was friendly and efficient. The Grange is one of my favourite hotels. Although I drove this time, it is worth noting it is directly opposite the railway station.
The hotel is very old but well maintained and very attractive. The grounds are beautiful and very well kept. The rooms are spotless and.comfortable. The food in the restaurant is outstanding. Every meal was a delight for your taste buds.
Lovely location to go to Grange Over Sands 10 mins away or Windemere 20 mins away. Lovely quiet area with a hotel and 11 lodges some of which are pet friendly too.
