An unexpectedly attractive town with beautiful harbour and nearby mountain. Lanes often steep and narrow so car driving tricky but possible. Plenty of restaurants and a bakery offering very good breakfasts. A walk up to the castle above the town was enjoyable.

A little disappointed by the recommended Porto Guardes café...
A little disappointed by the recommended Porto Guardes café on the harbour because they didn't serve food till 7.15 pm & the salad was mainly out of a jar, i.e. white asparagus, sweet red peppers, an onion garnish on the boiled potatoes. Would have been better to have a fresh salad. However, the pimientos Padron & the Galician octopus were excellent.
The two mile walk from my hostel to the harbour was wonderful & quiet.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights while walking a comino through A Guarda. Every element of our stay from check in to leaving was a pleasant experience. The Bookings pictures don't capture the tidiness of the apartment or the fantastic view of the harbour and waterside town. Very quiet at night, no problem sleeping with windows open, comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen for 2 people. Great value if spending more than 1 night. Being non- Spanish speakers, sincere thanks to the lady that checked us in and out - she was very patient.
The owner was incredible to attend to us and make our check in smooth and easy. The room was perfect for our stay during the Camino. The next day, breakfast was great and check out was very easy. They allowed our bag-transfer company to drop off and pick up with ease. We would stay here again if we visit A Guarda again.
P.S. when we arrived the front desk was closed. If this happens to you fear not! Just message the property and the owner will arrive very quickly!
Location was incredible - totally worth the 30 minute walk from the port to get there!
Rooms are not super upgraded but that adds to the charm.
Hotel staff was amazing and so super helpful! 5 stars for the over the top effort of both of the people working the front desk during my stay.
The whole place is reminiscent of family resorts from the 50s with a luxury dining area, lovely patio restaurant, and nice rooms with comfy beds, all right on the beach.
Good location in downtown area close to shopping and services. The staff were friendly and I was offered water after a long day walking the Camino. Breakfast was included which included toast, butter/jam, and tea or coffee. The hotel looks like it was updated in last few years with newer fixtures and furniture in my room. The hotel appears to be family owned, not a big chain.
I loved my stay in that hotel. I was doing the camino route to Santiago de Compostella and as a pilgrim you wouldn't dream of a better place. It's perfect as an amazing beach is right outside at the doorstep. I spent the whole evening by the beach. My room was good enough. And a couple of good restaurants are just next door. IT was definitely a highlight of my whole trip
Very nice location of the hotel with easy access. Extremely clean and fancy!
Very comfortable and good size room+bathroom.
BEst of all was the terrace facing the river and mountains - sunrise was so beautiful!! Definitely worth the climb up.
Being at the top of Monte trega, very nice to see sunset and starts in night also!!
+ Great value hotel + clean rooms + good size room + excellent working shower + modern design + excellent quality sleep + breakfast was great for this type hotel.
- Staff could be more friendly.
In general, the stay was perfect and simply had a fantastic rest over the one night stay.
Beautiful monastery with a lovely central courtyard and interesting history. Great location, right on the water in the heart of A Guarda, with many restaurants and a supermarket close by. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. A very nice place to stay and excellent value.
This was our second year staying at the hotel and we loved it even more this time. The location is perfect, the staff lovely and the room super. we really enjoyed the breakfast too and drinks one evening at the bar. we’ll be back again
