We went to Besancon to visit a friend and had only time for a short walk around the city. We visited Victor Hugo's birthplace which was very informative, and we were delighted to see some Roman ruins preserved in the center of the city. We didn't have time to visit the museum of the Resistance and would very much like to visit it on our next trip there.

Besancon is a nice small French town.
Besancon is a nice small French town. It has a couple things to do in the city, but I feel like the better ones are the Citadelle and parts outside of the city. But you need a vehicle to better reach outside.
I stayed 2 nights during January, it was cold and a bit windy, so going to a higher place was out of the question.
Th Time Museum and Victor Hugo's birthplace are pretty cool to visit and not expensive.
Lastly, I felt that people in Besancon were very friendly.

The nature is nice.
The nature is nice. You can make different walks in and around the town.
The busconnection is perfect en cheap. So you can leave the car at the hotel. You don't have to look for a parking near the town.
There are more museums than we aspected. Only the museum of resistance was closed.

In summer not all restaurants are open for business.
In summer not all restaurants are open for business. So it is wise to make reservations because it is busy. There is not a lot of trees, flowers, parks so the city looks a bit "stoney" / not romantic. The citadel is nice to visit though with children.

Tiny place and the shower was blocked, so we didn't use it.
Tiny place and the shower was blocked, so we didn't use it. It is a good choice for an emergency stop while traveling (in my case, from Germany to France) because of the location. I think they could do better.

Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon!
Wished we could have stayed longer to visit Besancon! We only stopped overnight on our way back to Germany but saw the Citadelle lit up at night and had a 20min wander in the morning before heading out. The city looked really interesting to visit and wander around for at least a full day or two. Might look into going back through in the future to see more of it.
Set in an old monastery looking down on the town, this well renovated and maintained hotel was the perfect place for us to stay in Besançon. It is on top of a hill and requires some walking, but we like that. The parking is in the garden. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast on the terrace overlooking the big garden and town is wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Reception went very well. Requested and received two card keys which was very useful as card needed in room for lighting. Good sized room with kettle to make tea and two towels each. Bit of space to move around in. Parking on site very convenient. There was a pool table and table football next to the bar. Staff were very pressed as there was a Champion Hand Ball team staying at hotel.
Breakfast was better than expected. Missing vegetables (but there is normally no vegetables in hotels breakfasts, dont know why). Hotel has chargers for e-cars! Recuperation of air in room, works well, you can sleep with closed window, silence. Nice. Personal of the hotel was very pleasant, friendly but professional. Feeling good there.
Efficient hotel located in an industrial area outside the city of Besançon. The parking was perfect just in front of the hotel and it felt quite secure. The room was fairly but fit the description. The bed and the pillows were really comfortable and amongst the best we ever had in a hotel. Everything was really clean and working.
The Hotel Le Sauvage is in a beautiful building with great facilities including onsite restaurant with excellent breakfast and a nice bar.
The staff were friendly and professional throughout and we could not have asked for better service.
The position is with in easy reach of the old town as well as the citadel.
A nice hotel to stay for a night on the the way to and back from the south. The room was quite spacious, the bathroom is great with the huge shower cabin and the balcony is a nice added plus. The neighbourhood is quiet, but in 5-10 minutes you are in the inner city to have dinner and walk around.
Directions to the hotel where keys need to be fetched/check-in could be more clear. I walked up and down the road (from the apartments) as I did not think it was going to be that far down the road to Hotel Sauvage. Maybe specific directions could be indicated.
great location very central to Besancon. The desk staff provided good advice on what to see and do. Breakfast is very good. They are smart enough to use a self operating expresso maker so they have good coffee, not the usual French dark water.
Rooms were clean and a decent size. Bed was comfortable and the area quiet. Loads of parking spaces and chargers if you have an electric car. Hotel is just off the main road so access is really easy for those driving through.
It was a short one night stay as we were traveling through France, but it was perfect. very clean, comfortable bed, helpful and friendly staff. The buffet breakfast had a very nice selection. Great location for our purpose.
Very spacious, clean, and distinguished by having a small two-person sauna which works well. modern kitchen, and a great shower. Close to the route up the citadel, the time museum, Victor Hugo museum, and bus routes.
I could really recommend the Hotel du Nord. Really good location, no problem with parking your car, very friendly and nice staff and so good breakfast. I was happy that I could stay in hotel room with my dogs.
The location is great for people who are passing through France and need only a place to stay for one night. I really liked the self check-in process, because we were not time limited with the arrival.
Very fast and easy check in. Exactly what you expect, when you need a good night's sleep on your way to the south of france. Water pressure in the shower was amazing, almost like a massage!
-very comfortable modern hotel room with small balcony overlooking the street
-secure parking available at eight Euros per day
-short walk into old city
