If you like to walk, Portsmouth is perfect.
If you like to walk, Portsmouth is perfect. Unfortunately Strawbery Banke Museum was closed for the season, a reason to return.
We found some great restaurants. We really liked The Franklin and were sorry to have missed Cava. Cava was closed for two weeks, so another reason to go back.
There were a few other restaurants we want to try too!

We stayed for one night enroute to NYC from New Brunswick, Canada and again on the way home. We would definitely go back for a longer stay. Close to shopping in Kittery; ate at Applebee's and the Olive Garden, two of our favorites when we visit the US. Delicious food and wonderful, friendly service.

Portsmouth is a fun city : lots to do and see nearby also. We enjoyed a movie at the cool music hall , and drove to nearby kittery outlets. We had a lovely late lunch at wentworth by the sea. Great breakfast at friendly toast and we signed up for a time before we went so skipped the wait outside. Lots of arty stores and a good bookstore too.
Enjoy!

We love the character of Portsmouth.
We love the character of Portsmouth. It's charming without being stuffy, and has a vibrant, funky feel downtown with some good restaurants. It's also very walkable, even when the conditions are a little challenging. Just be sure to check the weather for your trip and bring appropriate clothing and footwear. If you are in town, don't miss Caffe Kilim for great coffee, bakery and snack items. Also, grab a meal at The Green Elephant for some of the best vegetarian Thai food you will find in New England.

The Library Restaurant was amazing.
The Library Restaurant was amazing. Loved the feel of downtown being such a vibrant place. Historical sights were abound. Strawberry Banke, the Fort, the Tug Boats...people watching...the Music Hall too!
The room was great for a solo traveler. Single bed that was very comfy. The room itself was stylish and comfy. The desk placement was perfect to use my laptop and watch TV. The 3 ball lamp in the corner was a nice touch to the aesthetics. The bathroom was clean and spacious as I am a bigger person. Plenty of room! Biggest perk was an AC that actually went below 67 degrees! Most hotels I have stayed at lock the AC to 66-67 degrees at the lowest. This place's AC went all the way to 60 degrees!
We had a spacious room with 2 double beds, spacious toilet. Hotel is clean, quiet, in a good location. We could walk to almost everywhere. Good food choices within a 10 min walk. Valet parking is efficient. Standard breakfast with a limited range of hot foods. Room has a mini fridge without the frozen section. There is microwave but no cutlery. Friendly staff, good service
This is a great place to stay to discover Portsmouth. You’re within walking distance but just far enough away so there’s no noise. Clean & comfortable accommodations.
A highlight was Bartender Theresa. She is lovely! Professional, kind, helpful & fun! She makes an impact & a difference. She wholeheartedly represents the hotel’s hospitality. You’re lucky to have her!
Quiet room, very comfortable bed, large shower with a free-flowing drain, good size refrigerator (in our Deluxe room—not sure the regular rooms have them). The long desk w/2 chairs was very convenient for 2 people. Loved the wood floor—so much more sanitary than carpet. Easy parking. The rate was very reasonable compared to other area lodging.
The town and hotel of Portsmouth are both lovely. The hotel has character. It was fun to be able to safely walk everywhere. Great seafood chowder and I found an excellent lobster roll. So many fun stores and historical sites to see. Too many to name. Too many great restaurants and galleries. I couldn't visit them all.
Central Portsmouth location - corporate feel.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff on reception.
Good valet parking - expensive?
Comfy beds.
Breakfast was limited as expected but not the quality of everything else at the hotel.
Breakfast was delicious. I had the breakfast quesadilla, and my sister had the breakfast sandwich. We sat near the 2 sided fireplace, which made for a nice atmosphere.
The location is great - a five minute walk to all the restaurants and shops in downtown Portsmouth. There was free parking in the private lot behind the property.
