Castelrotto is a perfect base in the heart of the Dolomites and a fascinating, beautiful village in its own right. The Alpe di Siusi meadows in summer are unmissable. If you can make the drive up through the Val Gardena above Castelrotto, it is simply spectacular.

Great location to explore most of the dolomites but would recommend hiring a car if you want to venture further out. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel for shorter explorations and lots of local walks. But we wanted to do some hikes that were a little further out (eg the three peaks) and glad we had a car! Restaurants got full in the nearby towns so would recommend booking in advance - one night we had to get a takeaway as we couldn't get in anywhere! But the nearby towns are stunning and would highly recommend as a base for the dolomites in general

small, quiet village, quite picturesque, with just enough stores and restaurants to satisfy local need. Very close to beautiful ski and hiking sites, and also to Bolzano. it was a random choice for us, which proved to be very enjoyable.

Quiet and peaceful village in the Dolomites.
Quiet and peaceful village in the Dolomites. Great place to stay and go visit and drive the Dolomites and do what ever you wan to do there from hiking and biking to taking a gondola to the top of a mountain or just do scenic driving like I did. There is a great pizzeria there and a fun bar with friendly wait staff with great cocktails and most importantly delicious Italian Ice Cream. Great home base for the Dolomites area and surrounding Alps Mountains Passes. I had a beautiful BMW convertible so I did a lot of scenic driving in the area around Castelrotto.

Disclaimer: we visited during the first few weeks after the covid-19 lockdown. This means there was hardly anyone there (good), but most restaurants and hotels were closed (less good).
The village is very pretty, nestled at the end of a valley. It' a great base from which to explore the area. We stayed outside of it, in a smaller village called Tisens, a pleasant half hour hike away, so we enjoyed the view of Castelrotto.
The village has a mix of beautiful traditional buildings and incredible modern ones.
Breakfast was a great spread of meats, cereals, bread and a warm item (usually eggs). We stayed here for 3 nights as we loved this family run hotel! The breakfast server remembered our drink orders, we got to know the owners and felt very welcome. Rooms are a decent size for the price in the Dolomites (we ended up in two different rooms) with a little seating area in each of them. We loved the little town as we found the major towns in the Dolomites to be too touristy. This place felt homier and was an excellent base for nearby attractions!
Location was excellent, and the hotel gave us both bus passes to get to Alpe di Suisi. The breakfast was delicious, and we recommend the 4 course dinner at the hotel as well. The staff went above and beyond helping us with everything from navigating hikes to providing a fan due to the heat wave in the area. Sabina and Katharine were outstanding at the front desk, Sandra knows everything about wine, and Peter makes excellent drinks in the bar. We can’t say enough about the staff at Schgagular Hotel! Everything was perfect!
The superior apartment was very nice. Also very large 90 m2. Everything was like new and we felt at home there. Very nice owner. The kitchen was well equipped for a family of four. Very nice view from the balcony of the surrounding mountains. Spacious bathroom and large shower. The car could be parked inside in the garage. A car with a relatively high roof box could fit in the garage. Option for children - trampoline, sandpit. Only 10 minutes from the chair-lift in Seiser Alm.
It was clean, big, comfortable & cozy. I liked the pinewood finish which was in theme with the log cabin-like feel high up in the mountains. A huge reason were the lovely, warm people who ran the hotel - a special shout out to Kadja the manager. She is a gem of a lady that really made the stay even better by her warm, humorous, kind, helpful - I could go on and on - personality. a big, big thank you to you Kadja for making our stay so special ! ❤️❤️❤️
Quiet place above the Castelrotto. Skibus nearby the appartment. Fully equipped kitchen (the microwave will be fine but it is available in the big kitchen on the floor). Wellness - infrared and steam sauna plus the relaxation zone - available on demand. It is recommended to book the wellness prior your arrival - probably during the booking process.
The location is great, in the center of the town and directly in front of the main bus station. They give you a free bus pass to travel from the bus station in Castelrotto, to the base of the lift for Alpe di Siusi. The breakfast (included) was great, with so many different items available.
Nice shower, comfy bed.
Really great value!
The breakfast, included in our room fee, was excellent. The employees were friendly and helpful. Solaia Hotel and GuestHouse is located in SudTirol -- the Italian Alps -- an exquisite location! Kastelruth was beautiful, and we spent our two days pre-travel back home walking through the beautiful town and hiking in alpine meadows.
The location was excellent, the hotel was beautiful and the grounds were well kept. Views of the spectacular Dolomites !! The staff was very helpful and welcoming. The amenities on site; pool, saunas, hit tub, small excessive room , sitting area in the downstairs spa...comfortable beds, really nice bathroom..
I enjoyed relaxing at the wellness center, especially during rainy weather. The hotel served afternoon tea and snacks. Both breakfast and dinner had a large buffet. The hotel was a short walk from the historic center. The staff gave me a free ticket for the chairlift. Great hiking trails are located nearby.
It’s a perfect destinations for a solo traveller or a family, as it is relatively close to Alpe di Siusi. Hotel has unexpectedly high quality Spa (sauna, internal and external pools). Everything was simply perfect, including the service and the staff members who were exceptionally professional.
The location cannot get more central in Kastelruth. The parking was included in the fee and the parking lot was a 2-minutes walk from the hotel. Breakfast was quite good. We really appreciated the great room size and the free laundry within the hotel.
Amazing family run hotel. Feels like home. Everything was just perfect starting with great family running the place with passion and dedication which you can see. Great location, atmosphere, rooms, pools, food ... Thank you!
The location in the town was excellent, and the staff were very accommodating with us travelling with a baby - breakfast was very nice and the lady managing the hotel made great local recommendations to explore the area
Nice, quiet place, wonderfull view. Always nice staff. Hotel is clean, smells beautiful. Kitchen is tasty, big choice. Breakfasts with everything from fresh fruit to served hot meals and coffee. We loved the Spa!
Beautiful compound, includes restaurant. Great view of valley right outside of my patio. Walkaboe to kastelruth. Peaceful, quiet, great shower for 2 or 4. Newly renovated. Clean.
Hostess, communication, fresh bread service, view and location. Skiing at seiser alm is a breeze from there. Bus is excellent but driving with car to parking is 12 minutes or so.
