History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano.

History and historic wines combine in Montepulciano. My husband and I are sommeliers, art and history lovers. This town delivers on all scores and the locals are incredibly inviting and friendly - even more than the typical Italian standard. This town constantly has cultural and musical events, some serious and others simply fun in nature. Wineries close by, and the wine bars, closer.

Montepulciano is beautiful and old and hilly and kind of mysterious. It's fun to walk around – although your legs get sore! All the old buildings and streets and alleys were super cool. It was also great being in the heart of wine country. We'd heard a lot about Italian hospitality but didn't get a whole lot of that – it was still fun to explore ourselves, thpough.

The setting was breathtaking. The accommodation was picture book perfect and included free parking! The views from the bell tower, directly across the piazza, made the climb worth every step! Highly recommended but allow yourself a minimum of a two night stay!

We had the great fortune of stumbling into the start of their week-long Bravio delle Botti festivities in which the neighborhoods compete against one another to roll wine barrels up the steep streets of the historical center. We got to see fantastic performances by the drum and flagwaving groups, have fantastic dinners put on by each of the 8 neighborhoods (contrade), and enjoy some shows put on in the Piazza Grande. The town itself is steep and filled with cantinas. Gorgeous historical hill town surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves. It's Tuscany at its finest. Fairly well touristed, so be cognizant of prices and a few tourist traps, but otherwise very pleasant.

Montepulciano is a small town and everything is within walking distance, but it's very hilly (up and down). There are several good dining/drinking options (Trattoria di Cagnano on via Dell'Opio Nel Corsa was great for a late dinner!) and good for shops (tourist and retail/clothing/leather). Wine tasting is a must too (great wine options by the glass at the Montepulciano fortress and Enoliteca on via Di Gracciano Nel Corso)

This is a very nice city, however not for the faint of heart. You have to be in good shape as you are walking steep up hill to get to the top of the city. The main street is downhill, so if you happen to stay in a hotel at the top of the hill, you are constantly walking up and down to get anywhere. There is some paid parking at the top, the rest of the parking is down the hill. It is a nice city to visit for the day, not worth staying overnight. There are some wine stores, I recommend Talosa,(off a side street near Piazza grande) they have a wine cellar worth looking at as it is an old tunnel built during WWII. Sales girl was very friendly and helpful

A lovely, thoughtfully furnished villa hotel set in beautiful countryside within walking distance of Montepulciano. Niccolo and his parents were very welcoming and helpful, and his mother's breakfast is exceptionally good: by far the best cornettos and cakes we had eaten during our holiday in Italy. Niccolo provided excellent advice on local shopping. Good, safe parking. We appreciated the reading space outside our room, with its gorgeous view over the garden, and the interesting books provided. We look forward to staying again.

The owner of the property, Roberto Gardinelli, is truly one-of-a-kind. He is joyful and gregarious, and was extremely helpful and caring. His hotel is in the center of what is going on in Montepulciano and we only wished that we had booked it for more than one night. Our room was comfortable and beautifully decorated. The breakfast, which is included, could not have been better. We will definitely return to Montepulciano for Christmas in a couple of years and we will stay with Roberto and his lovely wife, Vittoria.

This was one of the best accommodations I have ever stayed at! Clean and extremely comfortable room, fragrant bed and bath linen, the staff are extremely attentive, the breakfast is DIVINE (cold meats and freshly cut fruits, delicious cornetto, quality coffee, everything wonderful). The hotel is outside the no-parking zone, but very close to the entrance, which makes it easier for those with a car! I just have to thank you for your attention and incredible stay! I highly recommend this accommodation in Montepulciano!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 17 Ventagli. It felt like a home away from home, a place to slow down and truly enjoy the beautiful setting. The host was very welcoming and excellent with communication. Facilities were perfect, everything we could have needed. The view from the terrace upstairs was superb. Free parking outside. Quiet neighborhood. Comfortable, clean and very tastefully decorated. A good base to explore the area. Will definitely return here when visiting Italy.

This B&B is absolutely stunning, an amazing property in a beautiful location. The rooms are lovely and comfortable with excellent air conditioning. Just a short drive or walk into Montepulciano as long as you don't mind walking up the hill. The pool is amazing and this was the best breakfast we had anywhere in Italy. Sandy and Phil are lovely people and incredibly helpful with recommendations and making reservations at restaurants. I wish we could have stayed longer!

The location is extraordinary. A place you see once in a few years. The property itself is beautiful, very well designed, and cozy. It is very close to Montepulciano, a breath taking city (you see it from the hotel specious terrace) with lots of dining options and more than everything, and it is really hard to bit the list, Tatiana, the host, is a warm welcoming helpful in anyway and full of knowledge about everything you want to do in a 100kn radius. Thank you.

Wow just INCREDIBLE! Only good things to say about this amazing resort. Mario, Anita and the others were the most amazing staff who not only catered to our every need but also gave us an upgrade to a bigger villa. We travel often and will honestly hope to come back every time we are in the region. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a luxury but affordable stay in Montepulciano or the Tuscany region. Also, breakfast was superb!!

A budget / basic family hotel, effectively in the centre of Montepulciano, run with passion and love. One feels like at home. Excellent advices, assistance and attitude (personal care) from the side of the owners - one does not see this very often either in Italy, or in other countries. Very comfortable mattresses. Own parking. Breakfast exceeds the standards not only of 2*, but even of many 3* hotels in Italy.

Breakfast had much to choose from and was very fresh. We also had reservations for dinner and the meal was delicious, the service attentive. We were able to buy a bottle of wine from the vinyard to drink with dinner. The Villa Nottola was a relaxing place to stay in the middle of our very busy tour across Italy. Sitting by the pool was a plus. Would definitely recommend staying here!

A lovely 6 bedroom Palazzo in the heart of Montepulciano's Centro Storico. Family run hotel, very nice and friendly staff. Room was lovely, with a window overlooking the historic district and steps from the main square and Cantucci winery. Would definitely recommend. It was super hot during our stay in Montepulciano and the hotel's air conditioning worked perfectly.

The hotel is perfectly situated in Montepulciano with parking just a short walk away. We were sent very detailed information on how to access the parking complete with photos which we appreciated. The room was quiet, comfortable, clean and spacious and the building even had a lift. We would definitely stay there again.

Warm welcome by the host Gianni along with a bottle of well known Montepulciano red. The place is a little bit away from the center but we already know and expected that prior to booking. The place was clean and huge! Maybe the biggest bathroom we’ve stayed at in Italy.
