The people are very friendly. Amazing view! Best place for a family holiday! We visited the air strip and you can have the view of the whole of Port St Johns from the top. Views of both the mountains and the sea. Breath taking beautiful!

It used to be the holiday destination if choice in the Transkei, but neglect is now evident in the region. Holiday Makers do not seem to be coming and money is not being invested to make it an attractive option. Cremorne always had a great mix of holiday makers and locals with a vibrant pub. It now seems to be the preserve of local Goverment and Municipal Employees for their breakaways and functions. Not a great vibe for that relaxed holiday experience.

All the people I have interacted with were very welcoming.

All the people I have interacted with were very welcoming. I saw people walking freely at night. Restaurants were recommended in details and had to choose which one was the best for us. Went to Steve's and Monkey Jungle, the food was awesome. People at Isinuka were friendly and helped a lot to show us around.

The area around PSJ is beautiful with natural pristine beaches, but the road on to Ferry Point and Agate Terrace are difficult to navigate; similarly the roads to The Gap. Second beach outside the town is very beautiful, may also be suitable for swimming, but there are no lifeguards. The scenery in the region is beautiful, the people are warm and welcoming. PSJ has a large well-stocked supermarket. The local hardware store sells fishing stuff (hooks, weights, etc.). PSJ is known for diving and fishing (from boats and the shore).

This is NOT a town you want to visit.

This is NOT a town you want to visit. It offers absolutely nothing and is run-down and unkempt. We expected a picturesque holiday town and got the total opposite. Resorts along the river are the ONLY highlight.

    Wonderful part of the world.

Wonderful part of the world. Great mountain peaks and wonderful view of the Ethiopian Sea and Sunrise. Pity about the traffic cops that bully and terrorise tourists even though the roads and motorway facilities are appalling. Potholes that literally damage your car, speed humps aren't painted and usually not sign-posted, road markings don't exist nor do traffic lights. What do they do with their annual roads budget?? Only one restaurant knew what vegan was. No e-hailing taxi services nor did there seem to be a local minicab service. So don't break down in your car. Otherwise, lovely, hippy seaside town!

We stayed in the one-bedroom rondavel which has a beautiful deck with braai facilities overlooking the lagoon and second beach. The location is absolutely stunning and Mark, the host, was really welcoming and helpful, particularly given that we arrived at really short notice after suffering car troubles in Port St Johns. To be honest I am glad that the car did break down otherwise we would never have stayed at this lovely spot.

This biggest issue was the Tavern across the water way that was still making a noise at 2:30am in the morning preventing us from sleeping. At this point we decided to pack up and get an early start on the next leg of our journey down to the Eastern Cape. This is in now way the fault of the owner or establishment, but would be a strong consideration for us next time we were to travel to Port St Johns.

The Spotted Grunter is in a cool area of South Africa. We loved our time in Port St. John and exploring some of the coastal areas. The hotel was awesome with their restaurant for dinner and breakfast. The bed was comfortable. The shower was powerful and good. The property has a beautiful river front to enjoy as well.

1.The staff in restaurant is warm and friendly. 2. Location is beautiful tranquil. 3. The owner when informed offered me gift. But he needed to take responsibility as owner and not blame staff when hotel standards not upheld. Especially for 4 star hotel.

Great jungle lodge feel to this place, Juliet gave a warm welcome. Access up steep drive required care but wasn't a major problem. Had the place to myself with plenty of space, large deck with incredible views of 2nd beach and surround. Great sunrise.

It was clean, and its the best accommodation in Port St johns. Its not the best town to visit, but we wanted to see The Transkei and had to sleep there. Nature is beautiful and its a paradise if you love to fish. Breakfast was great, thanks!!
