Beautiful ancient city, and you still can feel the daily normal leaving of its inhabitants. Liked the most to have 99.9999% chinese tourist at this time of the year, Mid March. Only 4 westerners encountered. Chinese History at its best. Lots of historical places to visit and learn from ancient China. Unmissable for local and foreigner travellers.

Incredibly beautiful town, totally made up of traditional Chinese architecture (at least on the main streets). You can buy a ticket that allows entry into many of the sites, including the Draft Bank, Temple of the City God, Confucius Temple and so many more, and then spend a day wandering around exploring them as you come across them. (Note that some of the smaller ones have almost no English signs, so it can be difficult to know what they are!). We bought the ticket from a window nearby (1 minute east) of the draft bank, but there may be other places. It's also interesting to go up the City Walls and see the town from above.

Fantastic historic walled town where you can easily escape the tourist area. Very very unique however Pollution was a big problem during our stay as it is in the midde of a huge area full of factories. We spent the 2 days with our masks on.

We visited in November so starting to get chilly at night. The numerous museums are interesting and give a good idea of times past. Great food in town but one or two restaurant and shop owners give more hustle than we'd like. Not too many tourists at the time we visited and we pretty much had the whole wall to ourselves. The old town is a comfortable size to walk around over 2 days. The 3 day "tourist pass" is well worth the price we paid.

Don't forget to visit MianShan which is 1 hour by car - you can easily spend 2 days there!
For dinner: a little bit away from the busy street you will find cheaper option. Or just try some small bites here and there.

We were there for 2 nights, 2 days.
We were there for 2 nights, 2 days. We arrived Friday at about 6pm and enjoyed walking around the old city, had a "fish in tank nibbling off dead skin off our feet" experience! Saturday we took a taxi to Wang's Family Compound, 50 km away. This is well worth doing - we took 3 hours to viist the compound which reminded us of a cross betwen the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.... On the way back we stopped at Shuanglin Temple - we only had 30 minutes there before it closed but it was more than enough - and I'd say this is very missable. Saturday evening we went to the excellent 20 minute 8pm laser show where they project historic scenes of Ping Yao onto the outside southern City Wall and the Yingxun Gate. Worth watching. Sunday we walked round some of the main historic sights including the Ancient Government Building, Ri Sheng Chang & the Residence of Ma's Family - all recommended.
The hotel is excellent. They came and pick us up and dropped us off at the train station. They communicated with us and arranged the transportation to arrive at the facility. The hotel has an excellent location, right in the Pingyao main street. There are lots of restaurant and dining options available. The room was really comfortable and clean. The hotel lobby (patio) was astonishing and very welcoming to the visitor. The breakfast was excellent. The hotel staff was really friendly and kind. We will stay again at this hotel!
The best value for money you can ever find on this website!!!
Loved the location on South Avenue in Pingyao Ancient City. The front is a restaurant with rooms in the back after going through a traditional courtyard. The rooms are renovated and up to date. The bed was comfortable!!!
Most importantly, the hostess was extremely kind and helpful. She explained everything (in English) and provided a plan to best explore town.
Really don’t think twice before booking this gem of a place!
Lovely family run guesthouse in a great quiet location, yet close to everything. The beds are great and the rooms cosy - and the old courtyard is just amazing. So is the service and hospitality. Not speaking much Chinese my friends and I were very happy with all the help we got from the kind owner and his family. Thank you for a great stay in beautiful Pingyao❤️
Yi de Hotel is a lovely, authentic hotel located in a quiet spot close to the centre of the ancient city. The rooms and courtyards are particularly charming. The staff were excellent. The restaurant provided delicious meals at good prices and was preferable to the various restaurants on offer in the town. I highly recommend this hotel.
1) excellent location

The location was great and there was a good atmosphere. The room itself was quite warm and cozy. Breakfast was pretty tasty local cuisine. Very communicative - easy to coordinate a train station pick up and drop off vi a hotel
location in Pingyao old city was best.
The location is far from the high-speed train station, but the hotel provides a pick-up service. So, you don't need to worry about the distance between the hotel and the station
Great location, authentic 200yr old courtyard house renovated to very high boutique hotel standards. Most importantly what makes it special is genuine hospitality received from staff at all levels. Top level service.
Beautifully renovated 270-old house with all the modern comfort. Extremely helpful professional staff. In a centrally located ancient city of Pingyao, but off the mob of tourists roads
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Pingyao and stay at the Pingyao Ji Family Courtyard Inn. The staff were wonderful. Staying at this hotel is like a magical walk back in time.
The hotel is a traditional building in the old town. Perfect location. Free pick-up service from and to train station, which is very convenient. The staff was very nice.
Very nice courtyard hotel. It sets you back in time. Very well decorated. Staff is friendly and provides pick up from the main entrance of the ancient city.
