FAQs about hotels in Geneva

Gateway to the Swiss Alps

Known for its international diplomacy, Geneva is the gateway city to the Swiss Alps and contains many international organisations that lend the lake-side city a cosmopolitan flair. It is filled with the best in cuisine, diverse languages and people, and top 5-star hotels.

It's easy to fly in to Geneva Airport, and like the rest of Switzerland, the public transport system is incredibly efficient. And the antique shops and steep, cobbled streets of the Old Town can be explored by foot or bicycle.

Many of the sights are monumental buildings such as the St Pierre Cathedral, but you can escape the chilly winters inside museums and galleries displaying everything from the Renaissance to the Contemporary.

Even if getting out into the wilderness of the Swiss Alps isn’t an option, there’s plenty of nature accessible within the city limits. Parc des Bastions offers tree-lined walks and a game of giant chess and Parc de la Grange is a green space situated on the Lake Geneva promenade. Jet d'Eau, a 140-metre high fountain in the centre of Lake Geneva is beautifully lit at night.

With over 90 hotels available, Booking.com ensures that whether you are travelling for business or pleasure you can experience the best accommodations Geneva has to offer.

    Carouge is a unique and super nice district! Enjoyed the cafés, the small stores, the artisanal vibe, art where you look. Great tramways, bus system - easy to get around. Next time by bike. The city has lots to offer beside jet d’eau - of course the common chains but check out the area around WHO and Red Cross museum.

    A nice city, but it feels like a lot could be seen in little time. I stayed for 2 days and it seemed enough. The lake is nice, and I like the diversity of restaurants there. A lot of rare birds for France, but handfed by the public, which isn't nice. Public transportation is easliy accessible and it was very nice to get a free illimitated pass even to the boat buses (given by most of the hotels)! There is also a small open air iceskating ring, a lovely park by the lake and virtual reality experience. We did walk past a man searching for a fight around 8PM (he was obviously drunk and told us to call the cops, and we had just walked past 3 frightening guys, not so far from the center), and we also saw a cyclist inconscious on the pavement by day with a huge injury on the head... Not feeling really safe there ^^;

    Geneva is like a condensed version of Manchester: big buildings, great transport infrastructure, and welcoming people. It is extremely expensive though - 3-4x as much as London, which shocked me. However it is a bit grotty near the train station (where all the best ethnic food is typically), and I didn't feel totally safe. Interestingly, the RLD felt relatively safe because it was so busy with tourists ogling and locals going about their business. You do get approached by prostitutes but they're friendly enough when you say no so it wasn't anything that made me feel uncomfortable etc. The parks and gardens are outstanding. I also enjoyed the reptile house near the airport. The coffee and snacks at Boreal are fantastic and they cater for dietary requirements and speak fluent English too, so I spent a lot of time there. With all this said, Geneva is worthy of a short weekend city break or enjoying a long layover in, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay there for longer.

    The city on the lake front is beautiful. and so are the botanical gardens. The people are helpful and friendly. The pace of the city is measured. Every public convenience and space is superbly designed. The airport is a joy. Everything works well and on time. Water can be had from the tap. Food is delicious. Public transport is free if you get a pass. You can jump on to any bus, tram, boat or train within the city at no cost. And you can drive or catch a train to Lausanne or Chamonix within an hour. Not sure of night life, because I had no time nor the inclination. But all in all a wonderful city.

    The room was of Ramada standard, that is rather spacious, noise-isolated and clean. The bed was really LARGE and very comfortable. The receptionists were very effective. The hotel is situated out of the city centre noise, some 15 min ride by bus. A shopping centre is in the same building - very-very convenient to buy food on our return in the evening; closed on Sundays, as all shops in Geneva. Train station is one bus stop from the hotel. The hotel provides with free transport tickets for all the stay.

    I choose this hotel because its location near Geneva airport but since there is another Ibis hotel near airport it was a bit confusing. So be careful when you make your booking. The nearer Ibis hotel has shuttle mine has not but actually it's very easy to reach the hotel by bus No. 11. I didn't know about it and took taxi instead. After you check in they will give you free transport card valid for your whole stays.

    I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Crown Plaza Geneva, I had decided to stay an extra day following a ski trip with friends to Chamonix and this hotel was superb, the room was very clean and quite and the staff incredibly friendly. However, one of the best features was the free shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel every 20 minutes, this was a life saver for me and I used it several times.

They gave us an upgrade and we stayed in a luxury room on the last 14 floor with a fantastic view on Mont Blanc. This is a reasonable hotel for a citybreak in Geneva. It has a central location, and is a short walk away from the tram that takes you straight to the main station/ city centre/ main tourist spots. The interior was nice, the room and bathroom had all amenities. An iron and ironing board were available on request. All in all, a good base for our short visit to Geneva.

    They provide free shuttle to and from the airport. Take this, coz taking a bus will still require you to walk a bit from the bus stop to the hotel. Price is steep but probably still on the low end for Swiss standard. Good place to crash if you just need a one day transfer in Switzerland.
