Didn't actually go into Ponty as visiting relatives/kennels down the road in Llanfrechfa. Callum (on Reception) recommended The Open Hearth at Sevastapol for a cheapish dinner which turned out to be an excellent recommendation. Only suggestion if booking hotel would be as this is a Services property, ask for a 2nd Floor room overlooking car park as quieter than overlooking A4042(main road). Otherwise faultless.

Pontypool town was about 15 minutes drive from our cottage,...

Pontypool town was about 15 minutes drive from our cottage, and it's obvious it's fallen on hard times since I lived there. However, it retains enough of it's 19th century grandeur, as the location of Captain Hanbury's country estate, which has now become the magnicient Pontypool Park, with it's vaired landscape, the best rugby pitch in the world, and it's Grotto and Folly, relics of the fascintation with Gothic horrors and romantic castles shared by aristocracy and copied at small scale by the gentry in the 1800's. Also the Park goes on forever, with a lake (it used to be bigger when I was 5 years old), mountains to climb, free-ranging sheep, wonderful views and even an artificial ski hill now. The Park entrance gates (all three) are also worth seeing, as is the Pontypool Museum in the old stables mews building next to Hanbury's house (now St. Alban's Convent School for Girls). The old market is run down and not really a market any more, and the stores of what used to be a busy shopping town for the mining valleys are closed, but it has a combination of melancholy and longing for past glories that is testimony to the the unique character of the Welsh industrial towns and villages that lost their mines and forges.

Pontypool is a lovely little town with lots of places of interest to visit around the area. Pontypool Park is great for a walk and has a play area for young kids. Big pit is just up the road. Also Newport, Cardiff and Abergavenny a short drive away.

SARAF WAS REALLY HELPFUL. HER PLACE WAS EXCELLENT IN EVERY WAY. IT EXCEEDED OUR WILDEST EXPECTATIONS. THOUGH THE LOCATION WAS A LITTLE OFF THE BEATEN TRACK, THE NETFLIX OFFERED COMPENSATED IT. THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL STAY.

I was visiting family, but there is a marvellous park in Pontypool town centre which is definitely worth a visit and it is a short distance to visit the Brecon Beacons, Big Pit mining museum (a must see!), the Black Mountains and Cardiff. During my stay we went to St Fagans National Museum of Wales (A bit like Beamish), Barry beach and Tintern Abbey, all very accessible from Pontypool.

How thoughtful the hosts were. Made sure that the heating was on prior to arrival and when meeting us asked if we needed any extra milk and bre kit. Just the little details that mean a lot. Also aloude us to arrive and book outside of the times agreed. Very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this to anyone and will be my first port of call when ever I go back to pontypool. Once again many thanks..

A beautiful cottage in a lovely location, right next to the canal, which we walked up, and 30 seconds from the fish & chip shop, which we had for tea. Clean, had everything we wanted for the night, am so glad I found this place for our stay. Will remember this place if we go to pontypool again, and will definitely recommend.
