Scarborough is a typical northern seaside town so has flashy lights and candy rock on every corner as you'd expect. It also has great pubs and many selling real ale which is what i want, it has a party scene too which i don't want so much [i'm old] lots of eateries and options too, theatres, cinemas and museums so plenty of cultural opportunties. Go there, life's for living right?

Pleasantly surprised as never been to this part of the country before. It was February, so quiet, but that was perfect for me, travelling alone. Scarborough has some very friendly residents and lovely open spaces. I loved Peasholm Park and the climb up to the castle (although too expensive to enter, it’s a ruin after all!). The old Victorian tramway (like a funicular) down to the beach is a lovely retro experience. Wonderful expanse of beach on south and north bays, great for dog walkers (not during summer season). I’m glad I was staying in the South Bay, even though there were the usual tired looking amusement arcades, but wonderful to explore the hilly narrow streets and sedate leafy avenues away from the front. Scarborough is a lovely, clean and welcoming resort, away from the commercialism and teeming tourism of Whitby. I found it difficult to track down anywhere to eat that appealed to me, a choice of a wealth of same old fast food and ‘Tex Mex’ places (overpriced) or very expensive food in hotels. So I struggled with finding somewhere to have dinner. Travelling alone, I am comfortable with eating in a pub, but not in any of those I came across, either there or in Whitby! Despite that one aspect, I am very glad I based myself in Scarborough.

All I can say is I stay there on average at least 10 times a year. If you’ve never been then you are missing a treat. Just go! We always go for breakfast to the Fairways cafe near Trafalgar Square near Peasholme park Michael the owner makes a spot on breakfast and lunch very cheap….The local scaffolders use it every day apart from Sunday when it’s closed. You can easily get around Scarborough by bus also there are two Victorian cliff lifts to take you up into town or up to the South Cliff the latter is just past the Spa…currently not on till late March due to maintenance. The one into town is located next to the Grand Hotel at the South Shore. Enjoy..you will be back!

Everything was just great. I have no complaints at all, infact I will be recommending the Norbeck to friends and family , the location and views from the Hotel are unbeatable. The staff where all very helpful and a pleasure to to deal with ,we had entertainment 1 night and that was quite good , and there was a famous entertainer staying there at the same time so you know it must be good , Having stayed in Scarborough many times at many different establishments ,the Norbeck is the best I have stayed at

From the moment we walked through the door we were given a very friendly, warm welcome, offered a hot drink, rooms were clean and comfortable, very spacious. Breakfast was one of the best we have had. We all felt that we had been going there for years, perfect host! So happy with our stay were going back again, we have been going to Scarborough at least 3 times a year for many years and The Gorden is one, if not, the best hotel we have stayed in and we would be reluctant to stay elsewhere. 🥰

Turning a blind eye to the very steep 6 flights of stairs....This 70's / 80's themed accommodation is the gem of Scarborough. We were a bit apprehensive about the reviews heavily catering for Dogs/Pets considering we have no pets, but it was so clean. So quiet, so close to the Town and Peasholme park. Everything you need is there with treats and parking was perfect. 10/10 All Day for us 👍 We will be back.

understood reviews were poor but unable to get alternative for NYE I decided to book, not expecting much. yes rooms are dated and not the best but hotel entertainment was fantastic! Different band/ music in each area, pool tables for kids, free hats party poppers etc. Rooms were clean, fresh beds just dated! This is easily the cheapest new year stay Iv ever had with lots of free entertainment!!

The lobby of the hotel is very lovely. The rooms are too small and even though we were "upgraded" to a room called an executive suite, it was far from that. This was the third or fourth time I have stayed there and it is definitely the last.
