A small and cozy place, it won't take a whole day to walk all the streets. But it has a nice atmosphere, and colourfull colonial style houses. Plenty of restaurants of different style and categories. Access is fine, steep roads, as this is a mountainous area.JOSECanada - 10Scored 10

A small but cozy town. Good restaurants, good options of dishes for cold days and has several trails and waterfalls. In a general way, I found the wines regular however with high prices, so my suggestion is to bring your own wines. Some restaurants charge by the cork/glass, but I still prefer it that way than paying dearly for wines that are not so special. And last but not least, the "Taberna" restaurant is a wonderful experience, but there are very few tables and it needs to be reserved via whatsapp in advance (sometimes a few days earlier).AurelianaBrazil - 10Scored 10

Went there with my boyfriend by car and we stayed for one night. It is possible to get to know the town on foot - everywhere is walkable. It has a very nice, slow village atmosphere and the views of the mountains are breathtaking. People of Lavras Novas are polite and very positive, we felt welcome and comfortable. We went there on Monday so most of the restaurants and shops were closed. We had lunch in Pousada Serra Do Luar - it is all you can eat buffet for 20 reais and the view from the restaurant is stunning. The beginning of the week is a good time for people who want to experience the town calm and slow (and for lower prices of accommodation). It gets more alive (and expensive) by the end of the week. There are trails to walk but we mostly stayed indoors to enjoy warm pools of our hotel Carumbé Chalés :) If you travel by car, you can also visit Ouro Preto. It's a beautiful district were the locals take care of their own. The only problem is that the district don't have ATMs nor other option to cash out money. Or you have with you already or you will have to go to Ouro Preto. Most will accept debit and credit card, but not everyone.FFlavioBrazil
