Everything was perfect down to the smallest details. Our suite was poolside with a door off of every room. Every room had all the comforts of home and more. We had a pool to ourselves since there were few guests mid-week. The breakfast was wonderful. The restaurant was not open for lunch or dinner but Resende was a 7 minute drive with restaurants and grocery stores. The view from any location within Quinta do Outeiro is breath-taking. We found everything was very clean. The staff were so attentive and accommodating for our entire stay. We will definitely visit again.
To go from the west to east end of the douro river area...
To go from the west to east end of the douro river area there is a north of the river route and a south of the river route. To protect the local culture, I would suggest a push to encourage the tourists to use the south of the river route. It is easier, prettier and about the same travel time. Google maps pushes everything north through the shortest route.
The google maps to porto is equally trouble some. It does not suggest only following route 108... It pushes north via local roads to the toll road.
An interesting look at the local culture, but I am not sure the effort is worth the stress.
