Transit point to big attractions in Sri Lanka. Ie. Ella, Sigriya, Dambulla and Polonaruwa. Gateway to mountainous region of Sri Lanka. Kandy is also a historical town with famous Temple of Tooth. This town is best served with affordable eateries and several modes of transportation. Cooler weather compared to the Sri Lankan capital city, Colombo.

An ancient hill capital, a religious city.
An ancient hill capital, a religious city. Has a lot to offer. Range of good restaurants, affordable.
beautiful scenery, friendly people, gem stores, shopping malls - overall a good city.
Sometimes heavy traffic.
One of the city in Sri Lanka that has Pick Me (local version of Uber) in use, avoids unnecessary negotiations with three wheelers and taxis

We have been to Kandy a number of times before, this time it was just a break in the train journey.
It is a big varied city with lots to do and see. The attractions are very well advertised and and tuk tuk or taxi driver will want to take you there.
We like the end of the lake with the hills and the temple.

Ideal for a relaxed gateway.
Ideal for a relaxed gateway. The hotel nests on top of a mountain and you feel really you are close to sky. Kandy is a great place to visit anytime. There are lot of places to visit and lots of activities to see around.

Kandy must have been a beautiful bill Station.
Kandy must have been a beautiful bill Station. Today it is crowded, too much traffic, fumes from the vehicles makes walking and travelling in a Tuk very uncomfortable. Transport is a major problem. Uber has a very limited presence and the local travel consonant Pick Me is completely unreliable. I had booked a cab to take me to the railway station at 5.30 am. Despite a confirmed and reconfirmed advance reservation, they canceled my booking because they could find no drivers!!! And there is no option to lodge a complaint either!
The Tuk drivers fleece tourists. So transport is a major problem. Besides there really isn’t anything great to see. All the tourist “attractions “ are 2-3 hours away. All in all a wasted trip. But the forest around is dense and beautiful. You get a good view from the train.
The hotel is very fresh and clean. Can straight away notice the entrance from the street. The location is close to the main places you want to visit in Kandy. Just around the corner.
The room was comfy, tidy, and had everything we needed. We took the room with the small pool outside - was great and refreshing during the hot days to get back and jump in.
Bonus - one of the rear places you can get good coffee from Illy.
Breakfast was good with Sri Lankan and Western options - more than enough to choose from to start your day.
SWP Eco Lodge is centrally located to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth. It is literally a 5 minute walk across the street and so is Kandy Lake. Location is the best part of this hotel, and the friendly staff always willing to help. Our main concern was safety, and we felt safe during our stay.
The views of Kandy Lake and the Temple of the Scared Tooth are amazing from our balcony of our room and from the kitchen. This hotel is recommend is highly recommended if coming to see the annual Kandy Perehera.
Oshan and his family are the best hosts we had on our 1 month journey through Sri Lanka. They are the kindest people you can meet. Very supportive and great to talk with and learn more about sri lankan culture. If you come to Kandy, definitely stay here as it's absolutely great! We spent 3 nights here and were sad we couldn't extend du to our plans going back to colombo. Rooms are spacious ans very clean, great bathroom with hot water and good water pressure and the breakfast is absolutely outstanding.
The rooms were huge and very nice. Definitely the nicest hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka. Bathroom was lovely with the bathtub and rain shower plus toiletries. Lights around the bed and tv were cool and gave a nice look to the place, wrap around balcony and view of Kandy were beautiful. This was just the standard room that we were in as well. The location was perfect, easy walk to some restaurants and lake. I believe his name was Kari but he was lovely and very kind/ helpful.
Kaya Residence is a charming hotel, just outside the hustle and bustle of Kandy. Even though it took us only 10 min to walk to town, the hotel felt really peaceful and secluded… the staff were so attentive, they really went the extra mile to make us feel special. We had 3 rooms - all were spacious and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was fantastic! We ordered Uber Eats one day and lounged by the pool… highly recommended and hope to go back!
I’m very happy to have chosen this hotel. It is located very close to town but on a mountain so it is very quiet. Very spacious room, clean sheets, amazing view from the room and balcony, and really nice breakfast.
The owner Manju was the most amazing host, he arranged all my transport while in Sri Lanka and helped me find hotels in other parts of the country.
Absolutely loved it!
This is the best hotel I stayed. It is not so far from the Kandy town. But the environment is nice and clean. The hotel is very nice and has a small beautiful garden. Room is very comfortable. Great value for the money. Feel like home with the friendly manner of the owner. Thank you for the Sri Lankan breakfast you arranged. Everything was perfect and ultra clean ❤️
The staff was amazing, attentive and very accommodating. They went out of their way to cook Sri Lankan breakfast for us which was not on the many and it was very nice of them. Special thanks to chef Maclawa, Susantha, Pradeep and Dylan.
The room was clean and quite spacious, location of the hotel is right by the lake, quite close to tooth temple and town Center
Wow! The hotel was super nice, a fantastic facility on top of a hill in Kandy with a spectacular view. The hotel is surrounded by nature, the only sounds you can hear are the birds. Truly fantastic.
Seneka, the prori owner, is super nice and helpful. The breakfast is fantastic, as are the room and facilities. One of the best accommodations in Sri Lanka.
This place has lots of character, the inner yard is beautiful and peaceful. Little oasis in the hustle and bustle of Kandy town.
Super friendly staff! We really enjoyed breakfast at the hotel restaurant and definitely recommend dinner at the traditional sri lankan restaurant downstairs for those who are more adventurous for some local "spicy" food.
Our first days in Sri Lanka passed in this place, and it couldn’t have been better. The hotel’s been only operating for more than a month after the lockdown, so we’re spreading the word that this place is truly amazing. Since it’s in Kandy and lots of people go on tours, they help to organize everything.
Selyna is incredibly kind and helpful, and her property is so lovely! The rooms were clean, the breakfast was delicious, and the family dog was absolutely adorable. It’s about a 20 minute walk into town, or a short tuktuk ride. I would highly recommend this property for anyone staying in Kandy.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at your hotel. The balcony area was perfect for spending time with friends, offering a stunning view. The staff's friendly and communicative approach made the experience even better. Additionally, the central location in Kandy town made getting around hassle-free.
Better than the photos..very traditional hotel room at world standard..clean, comfortable, tv, tea coffee, fridge..great pool..you forget you are in Sri Lanka! The staff were just lovely. Stayed here as it's close to the Botanic Gardens not a tourist area real food, real life, real Kandy!
The location of the hotel was just walking distance from Dalada Maligawa. Staff was courteous and attentive. Comfy beds. Pool was clean and well-maintained. We could see part of the Kandy Lake from our Lake View rooms. Breakfast was tasty.
Overall good stay , with 5 adults and 1 child.
Excellent hotel! All new and the view is fantastic, it overlooks the lake and Kandy town but is a very quick 10mins walk into town. The rooms are super comfortable and the pool is great! We stayed four nights and the breakfast is amazing. The staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Everything. From the staff behaviour to location of the hotel to the rooms, everything was perfect. Special mentions to the Manager Mr. Tilak and Ruwan who helped, guided and served us with anything that we needed. Best place to stay in Kandy!
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, very calm place and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting to Kandy.
Booked a dulux suite - the view from the window is great. The hotel is in a hill top and it covers the view of mahaweli river and kandy and kundasale areas.
