The food in Medan is superb, although some rumah makan did not really practice hygiene. Generally, it was easy to find non-halal and halal restaurants. Jong Ah Fie Mansion is awesome. Im impressed that a lot of the things there are well preserved. Istana Maimoon is okay for buying handcrafts. The Graha Bunda Maria Annai Velangkanni church is very unique too. However, I must admit that Lake Toba is the main highlight of my visit there. The lake is super beautiful and I really enjoy my stay and time at Lake Toba - Samosir, Karo, Berastagi etc...will definitely recommend travellers who enjoy immersing themselves in peaceful nature to visit Lake Toba. :) Seriously, the sunrise and sunset are mind blowing.

Medan, indeed all of Sumatra is much cleaner than Java. A lot more pride taken civically. Most folk uses Medan as their entry point to Toba. I just wished I'd spent more time in Medan first. Lovely place.

Medan is a great arrival and exit city for access to Sumatra
There is a good number of attractions for a day tour of the city of Medan itself and I would recommend this.
Aside from this is it best to stay in the places you are visiting.
Unlike what the internet may suggest you definitely cannot do a day tour to Lake Toba from Medan in one day unless you want to spend anywhere from 10 to 17 hours in a car. I do not recommend... at all.
A sunrise hike of Mount Sibayak from Medan is doable but will be very tiring and I would recommend staying in Berastagi instead.

Medan is a humid place. There are little trees in the city. Food is plentiful and tasty. However, due to drainage problem, it has lots of mosquitoes flying around. One can easily be bitten by them. So, always carry a bottle of insect spray.

I was only there overnight, arriving early evening by air and travelling on the next day. My hotel was perfectly located for airport train access. The city is huge and sprawling, can't really judge based on such a limited stay. I did have a very bad experience at the Pinang Baris bus station the day I was leaving. No one else around, just a group of very unfriendly men, waiting to overcharge you. I knew my trip to Bukit Lamang should be around 30,000...they quoted me 150,000, we settled on 100,000. I just wanted to get where I was going but they were very unpleasant. A lot of money was changing hands as I got in the battered old van...they think they've really pulled something over on you. It just confirmed in my mind that I won't be back in Medan or if I am...I will use any mode of transport but them. Crooks.
There have been a few reviews on here to say that the hotel isn't clean. I stayed here and it was very clean and comfortable. Also they are excellent at communicating about being picked up from the airport. This put my mind at ease being a solo traveler. For this reason I highly recommend them.
They also helped me get a local SIM card too.
There are many places to eat around the area. So all in all, a good stopover hotel from the airport.
Hotel is perfect for a quick night stop, prior to flying. Great value, and excellent location/proximity to the airport.
I was very pleased with the Airport shuttle they provided to me at 4.30am ! (small cost, but 100% worth it) .
As with every hotel I've stayed in Indonesia, the rooms/bathroom could do with refurbishment, but always nice and clean !
In the complex around the hotel there are a few food options and KFC.
If you want to have a ‘whow’ experience and you need to go to Medan: this is it! Small scale hotel with maximum service exceeding your expectations. Rooms are perfect clean and neat. Restaurant staff treats you as king. And they cab improvise: they can arrange last minute private tours to the volcano’s, historical buildings sightseeing, jungle track walking experience. This hotel has all the connections and make it happen.
The hotel is a calm and quiet place in the city that is Medan. There's lots of things to see and do around the hotel, one street from the hotel is a night market with great food and cold beers (across the street enter a small alleyway). The center, malls, train station and Little India are not far away. Maybe a bit far if it's hot outside, but you can always get a taxi in front of the hotel or ask the helpful hotel staff.
I really loved this place - extraordinary luxury for Indonesia 🇮🇩 think, very lovely people (especially Arif who helped out with a lot of things beyond the stay at the hotel)! Wifi is great, bed super comfy, warm shower (if you need that), and of course a pool… 😍 Perfect for a layover close to the airport and: the airport shuttle is for free every hour = awesome!
2nd stay. This is not a resort like hotel, so other facilities are standard. But for me who regularly go to Medan for family visit, this hotel meets all my requirements for staying in Medan. Room is small but clean and compact. The bed is comfy, the bathroom is always clean. Around the location there are plenty restaurants, street food, and cafes.
The breakfast was like a party! Great local music and wonderful stations, including all kinds of interesting teas and coffees. Lovely traditionally-dressed staff, an enormous array of local Sumatran, Indonesian, and international foods; one of the best breakfast buffets I've ever enjoyed. And, pool-side!
The location is set away from the busy streets of Medan, in a beautiful garden setting. It has an incredible team of staff that are super friendly and helpful with everything you need. The rooms are big and comfortable. The food in the restaurant is really lovely also. This is truly a special place.
Hotel at the airport, perfect for early flights. We got a quiet room at the end of the hallway. Decent rooms, with all that should be expected for this kind of hotel. Nice dinner in the restaurant. We went too early for breakfast, and the hotel provided a nice sandwich to bring.
The location is close to almost all landmarks in Medan, so you could walk around in the city. The staffs are kind enough to grant my request to be assigned to a higher floor with city view, but later I regret that decision a bit due to traffic noise.
The service was excellent and the staff are friendly. The breakfast itself may be lacking in presentation and concession must be give for being over crowded overall good hotel and will certainly be of my top list of Hotels in Medan.
The location was great. Nearby to the city centre. Plenty of restaurants and food stalls in walking distance. The room is clean. The bed is comfy. Wifi is working fine, even though some might be blank.
Very nice hotel to have our first night in Sumatra after a long trip. Very close to the airport and easy to go to Bukit Lawang or Lake Toba without having Ringo in to busy Medan.
The hotel is really nice. The staff is amazing and everything is really calm and clean. The airport is very close and the shuttle is cheap, which is perfect.
