Alpine Beauty and Lakeside Tranquillity
At the southwestern tip of its beautiful lake, Como has wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A cable car runs up to the village of Brunate, where you can see Switzerland on the opposite side.
The peaceful location is a favorite with celebs, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next-door Broletto dates to the previous century, and the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello are even older and sit on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style, the Casa del Fascio was built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighboring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodations on Booking.com include luxury lakefront hotels, centrally located B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, with direct services to Milan.

Stunning location, recommend you get up early to get the first boat to other towns on the lake. You have no queues, similarly with the funicular. We got an early car up to Brunate. Came down at 1pm and the queue to go up stretched onto the street. Easy to get to from Milan (1 hr train)

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with this accommodation. A few minutes before our arrival we received a call from Cascina Mirandola that there were no more rooms available for us. They had selected another hotel for us. There was no explanation or apology for this situation. The other hotel was very far away so we asked for another suggestion. We were assured that we would pay the same price as contractually agreed in the booking. As it was already evening, we drove to the suggested accommodation and stayed there overnight. The next morning we had to pay a much higher price for this overnight stay. The owner phoned Cascina Mirandola to clarify how to proceed. Casicina Mirandola promised to transfer the difference to us. After very slow communication by phone and email, we are still waiting for our money and an apology. Our calls are no longer answered. We feel cheated and cannot recommend Cascina Mirandola under any circumstances.

I must say, after everything I have heard about the beautiful Como, I was left disappointed. Maybe my expectations were a little to high but I didn't like it there. It is a cute town but nothing special. Doesn't feel Italian, if that's what you're looking for. Also, is it quite pricey. I will not be coming back here.

Breathtaking view of the lake and so many interesting places to visit. It was relaxing to simply be able to walk along the lake and be awed by the surrounding nature. It’s mesmerizing! I didn’t think I needed more time to spend in Como. I would have loved to stay longer to explore the many gems of these places. We spent 4 days in Como which was perfect. We took the ferry to lots of different towns and the last day we took the train to Lugano in Switzerland. We really liked Como as a base. The staff were great and really helpful, and they allowed us to stay in our room after checkout, which was really helpful do us. The breakfast was really nice. The room was very clean, and the beds very comfortable. it was also great value for money. We will definitely come back!!

Breakfast is exceptional, served in such a perfect ambiance with good selections for everyones choice, staff is super friendly and helpfull, but Mattia is an example how one should manage a hotel, we really felt so welcomed and appreciated. They made my birthday weekend so special I can not wait to come back again!!

Everything we needed was provided in the bedroom too, with a big comfy bed and nice linens. The family owners were charming and gave us good advice about visiting the lakeside villages. They run the restaurant at the front of the hotel and we had a jolly meal there. Como is absolutely delightful at Christmas - the best decorated town we’ve seen anywhere!
