The local pool was lovely - we went in the evening, so it was dark (I really like this). There was a local cafe/bar that served some great value meals - the lamb chops were sublime. There is a lovely friendly vibe in Borganes, and I would highly recommend putting it on your trip.

It is a bit run down but it is quiet and the beds are comfortable. Like most of Iceland in our experience, the pillows could be better. Hot pot, coffee, tea, cream and sugar are provided, which was nice. There is free parking, however I can imagine at times it may be hard to find a spot as the lot supports the restaurant as well. We had dinner at the restaurant, food was good and the portion was large. In a nutshell, this is a decent budget accommodation, with a restaurant on site which makes it convenient. If you plan to eat at the restaurant, make a reservation before 5pm. They were able to squeezed us in without one but there were many who were not as lucky.

Borgarnes is underrated as it doesn't have any bucket-list sights. It's a mid-size small town by Iceland standards, but it's got a lot to recommend it - it's a very typical Icelandic place, and one with a variety of landscapes and bay views. The Settlement Museum is overpriced (as most Icelandic museums are), but even without a visit there, Borgarnes is a good place for walking. It also has some decent to excellent eateries (the Bara bar and restaurant in the heart of the town is outstanding, and even the N1 station cooks up some of Iceland's best meat soup.)

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see.

Beautiful views. Lots to do and see. An area with a lot of history. A good for both people who like to do independent activities and people who prefer guided tours. It is the place of viking settlements and the sagas. There is a Settlement museum to learn about it. Waterfalls and a la a tube cave you can take a tour of.

We had a few hours here on the way to the Basalt Hotel. Car parking was free. There was a pathed route to walk around the coast. We had coffee and lunch at a wonderful place called Blómasetríð - Kaffi Kyrrð. We sat outside in a beautiful courtyard/garden. The food was excellent and the staff were polite and kind.

Drove by car from Keflavik at 10 AM - visited Akranes lighthouse and nice museum - had great vegetarian buffet lunch in Borgarness - at a vikkingmuseum. Drove to our hotel and then to the KRAUMA spa and we had dinner there. Next day we drove to the waterfalls Barnafoss, then to visit the lavagrotto and took over the highland on the road 550 back towards Reykjavik. Great tour!

The hostess, Kristen and her husband, were very gracious and accommodating. I loved all the fine tuned details…real candles, hot rocks in the shower, sanitary napkins for the ladies, wine glasses, chocolate, fresh picked tea leaves!!!lots of towels!, bathing suits, flip flops, light weights, etc…breakfast was gorgeous. Welcome drink and appetizer in the main house, exquisite! This is a home and you can feel it. This was our last night in Iceland and we were beyond pleased ❤️

Rent one of the cabins, instead of the rooms in the main hotel. Located closer to the beach, you will get individual cabins that we found comfortable and quiet. Walking down to the beach was a nice touch. The kind hotel host stopped by to tell us to keep the window closed due to small biting midges and provided us a circular fan near our bed to keep the bugs away. We like white noise so the fan helped us sleep through the night. We had no issues with the bugs.

Beautiful Hotel / Hostel! The staff is so awesome and friendly and welcoming; I cannot express that enough! Especially as a solo traveler a lot of times you're not sure what to expect next. Breakfast was soooo good; I loved it! It wasn't really what I was expecting, definitely more of a luxury hotel type experience, but hey - it was awesome! AND it's one of THE cheapest hostels in Iceland. (I know bc I checked the entire island lol.)

Fjola and Jon were outstanding hosts. Our apartment on their farm was a haven for our stay near Borgarnes. Views of the surrounding fields were great, and such a nice change from city hotels. The apartment had everything we needed, including a filter coffee maker. The weather turned overnight, and roads were closed the next morning. Fjola kindly informed us of this and offered that we could stay longer, which was very generous.

Nice and cozy hotel. Check-in is fast. Location is convenient and near to restaurants, with lots of parking available. There is also a restaurant within the hotel where pre-reservation is needed. Good choice especially during low period where some restaurants are not opened. Room is decently big and comfortable. Food served at breakfast are slightly different from others. Love the herring. :)

Almost Everything was great- the rooms (we had 2), the food (we ate at the restaurant quite often), the snacks to go, the sauna. Staff were very friendly and helpful from the dining room to the front desk. Hotel is modern, rooms are very nice and comfortable. Parking is right outside. Easy to get in and out of hotel. Everything on one level. We stayed three nights and were very comfortable.

Very good value - we had a 22h layover in Iceland, and we were able to rent a car and whole trailer cottage for cheaper than staying at a hotel closer to airport. It was an easy drive with nice views. Great place to sleep before next days flight - we also drove a little more to look at views in the evening. Cozy and functional, with a view to mountain tops.

The breakfast was continental, as described, fresh and on time. Our dinner was quite good as well. Hosts were very friendly and took time to advise us on our itinerary and directions. The siting of the hotel is simply amazing! Owners have plans for more expansion and amenities. Would love to return.

Cozy room. The room was quite warm through the night. There is a kettle and coffee/tea. Beds are comfortable enough. There is a restaurant downstairs and a small parking lot outside. Close to a few restaurants and a small cafe. Borgarnes is a very pretty and cute little town.

The hotel is in a golf camp. The room is comfortable and spacious. The breakfast is fantastic and the view to the golf camp and mountains is amazing. Furthermore, you can enjoy a hottube and sauna. It is a really good choice to the Iceland west.

Nice modern hotel in a secluded and quiet location, with good access through paved and gravel road. If you are looking for a goog hotel at reasonable price (even for Iceland) in that area, Basalt is a good choice.
