Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!
Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.
Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.
While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!
Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.

Despite not being an architect, the historic buildings took my breath away. The old town is generally very clean and maintained. to every place you can go by foot. If using a car, I recommend to learn upfront where the parking places are otherwise you get nerves:)
Do not forget to visit Sopot and Gdynia as well. And when you have some more time, the Slowinski park narodowy with the sand dunes is a must-see.

A lovely city.
A lovely city. I've done a guided tour of the city, went for food and drinks (you must try their winter teas), walked along the river. Also, very easy to go to Malbork from there, which is not to be missed.

Do a city tour as there is plenty of local history.
Do a city tour as there is plenty of local history. Must see attractions are the WW2 museum and European Solidarity Centre. If you have the time go out to Westerplatte site and memorial. Try Polish cuisine at one of the local milkbar (diner) restaurants, traditional cuisine and great value for money.

Gdańsk, a jewel of the Baltic Sea, dazzles with its remarkable architectural heritage and rich gastronomy. At the heart of the old town, cobbled streets take you on a journey through the ages, where colorful facades and Gothic buildings like the imposing Saint Mary's Church recount the city's rich history. Furthermore, local cuisine tantalizes the senses with its culinary delights. Picturesque restaurants offer traditional Polish dishes such as pierogi and żurek, while modern establishments serve innovative fusion cuisine. Waterfront eateries add an extra dimension to the gastronomic experience, providing fresh seafood in a spectacular setting, making it a true celebration for the palate.
Gdańsk's old town is a veritable architectural treasure trove, where every corner holds unique beauty and history. Iconic structures like the medieval crane and city gates bear witness to the city's glorious maritime past. Visitors can also admire the intricate architectural details of the adorned gabled houses lining the narrow streets. Meandering through the bustling streets, travelers encounter a harmonious fusion of historic architecture and modern touches, creating a captivating and memorable atmosphere at the heart of Gdańsk.

Just google the opinions about Gdansk. As overall they must be more reliable than mine. I've spent two third of my life in 'Trójmiasto' and will always highly recommend to visit this and many nearby places.

We went to visit it in December, and it was lovely!
We went to visit it in December, and it was lovely! We did not expect it to be such a cute and enjoyable city-break. It is a clean, safe and gorgeous city! Just walking on the streets is enough, no need to visit a lot (even though you can). The nature and beaches around the city are accessible and beautiful as well. We highly recommend visiting the city and next time we will spend a longer time there, for sure.
The hotel fully deserves the 4-star rating. It's clean, modern, staff is super friendly, rooms are big and beds are very comfortable. The location is also great! Located in the walking distance (approx. 8mins walk) from the old town, in area that is cousy and very quiet - you don't get that in a hotel located in the old town.
Breakfast was great and offered vast variaty of food and desserts.
We didn't use the spa facilities, so no comment on that part of the hotel.
We had a great time here!! we booked the accomodation last-minute while most places were fully booked (on the same day) and did not really had expectations. The garden is VERY beautiful and the house is impeccably clean. There is a fully equipped kitchen to use. We really felt like home, would reccomend to anyone. It is also very easy to get to the old town, we mostly used Bolt since it is so cheap in Poland, but there are several direct trams taking 15 min
Amazing location! Everything in old town, river etc can be reached within a 3 to 7 min walk. Many restaurants are nearby yet the appartment is in a quiet area. (If windows are closed) Shopping mall is a 10 min walk. Trams stop behind the appartment and take you for little money across town and to the beach. The appartment is light and airy more than pics show. Nice spacious shower. Easy parking behind appartment.
Room was spacious even with extra bed in it - and hotel accommodated our request for double bed. Location is good: next to train station, just a short walk from tram lines (but too far to walk to city centre) - and on the right side of the city for the Oliwa Zoo. Located next to a shopping centre - also a perk.
Spacious shower, nice hot water - though some quirks:)
Hotel is in the best location possible to explore the Old Town. It is right on the pedestrianised street & two minutes walk from the canal so there are loads of bars & restaurants around. The hotel was lovely inside & our room with twin beds as requested was lovely & also large. The buffet breakfast had lots of choice & you could also order from the breakfast menu.
The hotel is on the border of the very centre of Gdańsk: perfect combination of short distance to the old town and quietness. It’s a place with one of the best breakfasts I’ve had a chance to eat in Poland. Varied, with a hint of local delicacies, delicious.
The swimming pool is another asset. Very nice option to relax after a long-day’s walk around the city.
Spacious room, clean, great beds, TV with Netflix and YouTube, coffee machine, washing machine. Excellent location, just few metres away from Old Town with many grocery stores, restaurants and attractions all within walking distance. The staffs were all very helpful and attended to our needs promptly. Felt like staying in a 5 star hotel.
Large hotel with modern facilities. Spacious rooms, comfortable bed, nice bathroom and shower. Staff were friendly and spoke English. Ate food one night in the restaurant downstairs and it was good, modern asian fusion style. Hotel is close the the city centre, easily walking distance. Price vs quality was excellent.
Comfortable bed, nice room, exactly as is photos, clean, heated floor in the bathroom, great breakfast, good craft beer (with interesting history). We really enjoyed the stay a lot. Walking distance from the old Town. We liked the vibe of the hotel overall. There are interesting photos of old Gdańsk in hallways.
Very convenient location for the old town and the Christmas market. The room was clean and spacious. The bathroom was clean and modern. The bed was very comfortable and big. The staff were very friendly. The bistro in the hotel does some amazingly delicious food for a very good price
The location was good, right in the old town. The staff was sweet. The air conditioning was good. Opening the windows at night for air was not a good idea because the hotel sits above cafes on both sides - so the air conditioning was great to allow more quiet for sleeping.
This place is the warmest, most comforting hostel you’ll find on the North end of Poland. Honestly, it’s probably the best hostel in Poland period. The staff are excellent, the facilities are top notch and it’s incredibly cheap!
Good luck Basia in Brazil :))
When I booked this hotel I was attracted by the history of the place and by the fact that it was a 4 stars hotel. I still think it has a lot of potential, but some things must change.
The location is quite close to the old town, 15-20 minutes walk.
Nice staff, comfortable bed, spacious closet, kitchen was equipped enough. The place had fun activities, like playstation, gym. Good wifi. Walking distance to the Old town. Great food places around the hotel. All in all, good place.
The main benefit of the hotel is it's location: it is perfectly located in the nearest distance to the Old Town, to WWII museum, to Solidarnost museum, to grocery stores and coffee shops as well as to Railway station.
The hotel is quite close to the city centre - maybe 15-20 mins walk, has a bus stop right near the hotel; exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, very good breakfast, there is a small gym with sauna.
Best hotel on a 3 week trip from France, through Germany, Belgium, Holland, Denmark & Sweden & to Poland.
Lovely staff.
Fabulous wellness area.
