The old city is wonderful. Worth to visit. Good restaurants in the neighbourhood. I recommend to have a dinner in Marchese Val d’Elsa. View is stunning and food delicious. And the trip to go there is beautiful with absolutely great views. You need a car. It’s a 20 min trip.

Certaldo was the perfect place to stay in Chianti region of Tuscany. It had a train station so we could make our own way around to explore and sightsee. When visiting towns without a train, we took a taxi (NCC). Several people we met had rented cars and they found the area to be very drivable. Certaldo Basso (lower town) and Certaldo Alto (up the hill) are connected by scenic, natural walking paths and for those who prefer something easier, the very quaint Funiculare (1.5 Euro return). We stayed in Certaldo Alto, the historic centre of town. In addition to the fascinating museums - do not miss the Nail Museum - there are B & B's , apartments, and a lovely hotel. There are wonderful dining spaces inside and outside, bars and the wonderful Gelateria! In terms of crowds, there were occasional groups of tourists in Certaldo Alto but many times we were the only people walking down the cobbled roads in the middle of the day. The peace and quiet was most welcome after the throngs of people in Florence and Siena. Certaldo is a very special place. nestled in the heart of Tuscany.

This Medieval Borgo ranks among the most important in Italy...
This Medieval Borgo ranks among the most important in Italy for its history and access to both Florence and Siena. Additionally, this town is the birthplace of Giovanni Boccaccio and his featured in his major literature piece, The Decameron.
The new part of town is accessible with simple 10 minutes walks or via a mini railway (for a charge of €1,50); but you can also drive, thanks to the host who will manage getting the required permits.
Certaldo is very small but it sits at the crossroad of major communication roads, therefore it's easy to access Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Florence, and even Pisa.

It's very pretty hilltop settlement but you can see everything in half an hour. The funicular is fun but a little restrictive if you need to leave early. There are some great restaurants. It's the ideal stop-off for lunch if you are traveling back to Pisa from further south in Tuscany but not a great base for wider exploration.

Certaldo is very beautiful! Go to see the old town.
Certaldo is very beautiful! Go to see the old town. There is enough space for parking near the funicolare, the transport up hill.
Certaldo is central for visiting Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra and Florence. And you'll be driving through the most romantic landscape.

We visited the old city of Certaldo in 2 hours.
We visited the old city of Certaldo in 2 hours. New part not much shopping or restaurants. Supermarket we visited as we had a kitchen and stayed 5km out. Close to other old towns worth visiting like Volterra.
We bought olive oil and wine from our accomodation which we loved.
The host family is a very cordial family, they fully trust their guests (there is a refrigerator full of different types of drinks, from water to wines, beers and champagne - take it and write it down in the notebook you took)
Invest in breakfast with fresh things that they prepare on site every morning.
The location is very suitable for a star trip in Tuscany.
The view from the B&B is amazing.
There is a large pool, a laundry room for self-use, a gym, bicycles - and all at no extra charge.
Our room - Rosemary - had just an amazing view, wonderful seating area , comfy bed , and a terrific shower. The location , in the heart of Certaldo , cant be beat . The host Sasha , sent us all the info we needed to drive in to the LTZ , unload , and park . Excellent communication , and a nice breakfast. Probably the prettiest view we had in our days in Tuscany - it was a shame we only stayed one night. Certaldo is charming , well worth a visit off the beaten path.
Everything was perfect. The room and bathrooms were renewed and clean, the breakfast was amazing with typical food and the location was in the old town of Certaldo. The attention we received from Sasha, the owner, was perfect and she took care of every request we had. I would recomend this place for a couple that wants to visit la Toscana and have romantic days around.
Absolutely superb, the attention to detail is incredible. From the bedside charging point,to the retractable washing line in the shower cubicle, this is a host that knows what a traveller wants.
Certaldo was only a stop to catch the train TBH, but what a sweet little old town and the museum is superb.
Certainly worth half a day on your itinerary.
A true Tuscany experience….the grounds, the large rooms and oh so comfortable mattresses! That is the most important. Wine and water provided in your room. Great breakfast and there is a restaurant on site for dinner, starting at 8PM They have wine tasting also by appointment. Very relaxing place to stay!
Great sized bedrooms, good value for money. Small pool area but very comfortable sun loungers and separate pool towels provided. Hotel staff super helpful and breakfast great. Short walk into town, great restaurants up in the old town with fabulous views.
Great location. We traveled to Certaldo Alto for my brother in law’s wedding. The location was great. The accommodation had everything we needed and more with a baby crib. I would recommend to anyone and would stay here again. Lovely place!
The host was very friendly, he responded to all of our questions. The place is in the middle of the old town of Certaldo, a very nice place. We were in December and we had no problems with the heat. For the price, you cannot ask for more.
Loved staying in an old medieval tower but with a modern, well designed interior. Perfect location in the old, upper part of Certaldo. Comfortable bed and fabulous views from the bedroom balcony! Friendly staff and great value.
Fantastic location with 360 degree panoramic views of Tuscany. Perfect place to relax and unwind. Very pleasant staff. Within easy reach (by car) of many beautiful medieval cities such as Certaldo Alto, Sam Gimignano..
This is a really beautiful place with extraordinary view of Tuscany, you can spot San Gimignano's towers on a neighbouring hill, and can enjoy the sunsets just behind another.
Located in Certaldo Alta, Tuscany this Hotel is a wonderful and quaint place to stay with a beautiful garden restaurant and situated just 25 meters from the Boccaccio Museum.
Certaldo is a charming town and this hotel is perched on top of the town and has a spectacular view. The terrace is lovely and the breakfast is delicious.
