The historic Palais des Papes is one of the most significant medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. Right on the square of the same name, the Papal Palace is an important tourist attraction where you can see the pope’s private chambers and frescoes by Matteo Giovannetti.
Le Pont d’Avignon was built in the Middle Ages and, according to the legend, a young shepherd called Benezet was inspired by angels to build the bridge. The children’s song "Sur Le Pont D'Avignon" is now famous all over the world.

Lovely historical place to visit, safe to walk at night, clean & friendly, good map of various walks around city provided by tourist information centre. Quite a walk to Fort Saint Andre on opposite side of Rhone in Villeneuve, but worth the effort.

Avignon once was a beautiful old town, rich in history and lovely to walk around is. These days, however, the city is horribly dilapidated; at least two out of every ten shops is closed forever and their storefronts are covered in graffiti.
Another deception is the fact that it is very hard to find affordable restaurants serving French food, since the centre of town is filled with tourist traps serving pizza's, couscous and similar imported dishes.

Beautiful, historic, walkable city, with numerous plazas, charming narrow streets and great restaurants. Popes palace and surrounding area was spectacular, with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Great base location for day trips to other nearby interesting towns like Arles and Orange and others.

Fascinating to see the historic buildings and French people actually live there! I felt like it was a movie decor! It was quiet at night, we slept really well and our room was super quaint (Au Cœur des Papes). Lovely wood shutters to close at night so the sun didn’t wake you. Amazing 4 nights, good food and not too pricey! We visited the famous bridge of course and the palace but we also rented a scooter to go visit the countryside and vineyards in the Château Neuf du Pap région. Unforgettable 💕

Hotel De Cambis was the best find!
Hotel De Cambis was the best find! Day trips along with in town sights and shopping was great. Hip restaurants, don’t settle for main street places. Leave time to relax here. Beou and Bibendum are hip cutting edge places to be, eat and hang out. Easy to get around walking, trains, busses, tourism dept is great. Good place to hang.
This was a nice place with updated rooms and clean bathrooms but some rooms are not accessible by elevators. The staff is very helpful and kind. The hotel has a lovely rooftop deck for drinks and light food, especially nice in the evenings. The location is fairly central to Avignon for walking but there a more than a few homeless people who hang out in this area at night so walking back from dinner in the evening isn't as pleasant as other areas of the city.
We loved Hotel de l’Horloge! It’s 20 feet from the main plaza in Avignon with lots of great cafes and restaurants plus many others nearby. Probably the best location possible in Avignon. Even though our room overlooked the plaza it wasn’t noisy at all. The hotel is very quaint with nice staff, the bed linens and towels were very good quality. The hotel is somewhat quirky and not luxurious but still very nice. Would stay there again. Merci Hotel de l’Horloge!
Location and staff were good. This property doesn’t meet any 5 star standards. It us at best a 3 star. They are overpriced and provide nothing other than location. I will never ever stay here and will spread the word to my friends that they be er stay here. The WiFi was horrible. We were in a suite and it was dingy. The sofa bed was so bad that next morning I had back ache. Absolute waste of money staying here. The staff at the property are nice!
This is a pleasant quiet old style hotel just outside the ramparts of the city and a few minutes walk from the Avignon Central train station and 10 minutes walk to the heart of the city. I had a lovely spacious room with a balcony and garden view. There is a small area in the foyer area that also allows access outside into the garden. While small, the rooftop pool allows a space for relaxing in the sun and a cool water dip.
Stayed for a week and every single one of the staff I encountered were all amazing.. From the receptionist to the waiters and waitresses and cleaning staff who were all so friendly and professional, they are a credit to the hotel and Best Western as a whole. Loved the pool, gym, restaurant, and bar. Great secure car park, and comfortable beds. I would without doubt stay here again next time I'm in France.
Without doubt the best hotel we have ever stayed In —an unique hotel which transports you into a haven of old charm, luxury, exceptional service and peacefulness. Located inside the walled part of old Avignon, close to the main tourist attractions this has been an unforgettable stay. From arrival to departure you are guaranteed to be treated like royalty.
Great location right in the heart of Avignon. Breakfast was wonderful, so French, but great... some of the best croissant I've ever had! You can walk straight out of this hotel to the main square of Avignon and eat into the night, then only a few metres away is the Palais des Papes.
Room was quirky but suitable. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Vincent was a great host. First, he met me on bicycle when I got lost a bit and helped to find a way and park my car (too large for old city). Then he showed the options to spend several hours we had to get the best out of Avignon. It helped a lot! Room was really charming and special (huge selection of books on history - Local, France, World)
The hotel was located just within the town wall and the parking was very close and must be reserved in advance. The breakfast was typical France pastries, meat and cheese and the room was comfortable except the air conditioner was not working and we had to keep the window open to cool down the room. The location was great!
Our stay at No15 was perfect! The hosts were SO nice and made us feel comfortable right away. They gave us a map and recommended great restaurants around Avignon. The breakfast every morning was delicious - fresh fruit, croissants, juice and coffee. The hotel was beautiful, clean and relaxing. I’d highly recommend it!
The breakfast was amazing! They had yogurt and fruit, pastries, cheese, cured meats, bread and jam. They also had a selection of teas and the best coffee in France. The accommodations were lovely very well decorated and 2 of the sweetest cats. It was also conveniently located between the train station and downtown.
A truly spectacular place to stay. We adored this historic mansion that was so beautifully converted into a small and intimate luxury hotel. Our room was charming and comfortable and the common areas were inviting, as well. Breakfast was delicious. And Roman, the young proprietor, was very welcoming and kind.
best place ever. very generous amenities in cognac, coffee, candy. spotlessly clean. very beautiful suite hotel. great location. would recommend as the best solution for avignon. amazing host with parking outside avignon, at his private villa : weird at first but great solution, free and real easy.
The owner was extremely helpful. Let us leave our suitcases before check in and after check out. She also arranged a taxi for us to our next destination and advised us regarding local restaurants. The cheeses at breakfast were the best I had eaten in France. And the coffee was also excellent.
Good location, very easy to find when walking from the station. Extremely pleasant and welcoming staff - the best I've encountered in France. Clean, spacious, modern room with plenty of hooks, shelves, bathroom had a lovely, deep bath. Good breakfast and kettle/m/w available in common area.
Great location and quality of hotel. Best boutique hotel yet! Mona checked us in. She was fantastic. She recommended restaurants, places to visit, etc. Her English was very good! The room had everything we could possibly need.
Large hotel next to the city wall of Avignon; spacious rooms with bedroom and living room; our room was upgraded to garden view, as there was a contruction on the street side.
We arrived in Avignon by train, and the Hotel d'Angleterre was a short walk from the station. It was also a short walk from the main street with plenty of restaurants.
