Papantla really is a magic pueblo, so full of culture and friendly, yet far off the American tourist map. Home of vanilla and the Totonaca indigenous nation. The Voladores perform their ancient ritual on a 150 foot high pole adjacent to the plaza several times daily, not a show for tourists but an amazing ceremony to keep the world turning and their culture alive. Many other cultural events free in the plaza, local people performing for each other. But don't expect many people here to speak more than a few words of English. A treasure for the culturally adventurous.
