The wind was very strong en a way we could hear anything else. Even walking was not we asy due to the strong wind and after one hour we could only walk for few meters and had to go back because the sea water makes like a small rivers and cut the beach into a smaller pieces. We went to walk in the forest and that was more acceptable and we were able to see few nice animals. But it is an island and normally the main reason to go for an iland is to enjoy walking on the beach Wich was not Joyable at all. And moreover after few hours we have seen almost the hole iland expect the beach and we had nothing more to do. It ended up with tow exhausted persons who could almost nothing interesting seen on do, even just relaxing was not possible because it was very loud because the wind. I wouldn't advice anyone to go there unless they like strong wind.

Schiermonnikoog is a small, windy island.

Schiermonnikoog is a small, windy island. In warm summer weather it would be lovely for swimming and exploring. In winter (when I was there), it is probably best for bird watchers (lots there). I did do some nice walks, but after 2 days I felt I had exhausted most of the possibilities on the island for walking. Restaurants and cafes were good and there were a lot of them - most were very empty on a weekday in February.

Our short visit exceeded our expectations.

Our short visit exceeded our expectations. It's a gorgeous island, stunning scenery, peaceful and friendly. Will definitely come back soon and bring the whole family. Perfect if you want to escape the hustle and bustle. No cars allowed (only the locals have cars on the island). Great to decompress, relax and spend time in nature. Definitely rent a bike (right when you come off the ferry there's a bike rental), best way to get around.

The size of the island was like walking around the Open Air Museum in Arnhem, because of the absence of cars. It is so pittoresk and beautiful, with magnificent beaches and beautiful nature. Really worthwhile when you like to walk or cycle.

There are bike trails all over the island and on relatively flat terrain. You can easily see the whole island in a day long ride with stops for lunch and drinks and even a dip into the sea. There is a good guide for biking and walking in the info center in town. By the end of my 2nd day I was wishing I was staying one more night as it took a bit to get into the slow pace of the island. Highly recommend the Balgexpress all the way to the east end of the island to see the seals at low tide, and biking and walking everywhere. It is a really charming and slow place to pass time in a beautiful and nature-filled setting. The ferries and buses are all timed with each other so it is hard to miss your connection there or back. Rent a bike or bring your own along as there are no cars for visitors on the island. Favorite spot for a bite was by far the Schimonnikoger Vishandel - eat in or take out from the counter. The lifeguard beaches all had wind breaks and chair rentals and the beaches are vast. There were a lot of couples and families traveling and as a foreign solo visitor it was a little challenging getting service and a little lonely, but I wasn't going for night life or to meet people, so wasn't an issue for me.

We loved to be at Schiermonnikoog.

We loved to be at Schiermonnikoog. It is quiet, with beautiful beaches and nature. We rode bicycle and walked along the seaside. And we had wonderfull meals, the best in the restaurant of Hotel Graaf Bernstorff.

We had an excellent room. It was very large, and separate from the other rooms in the hotel, so even though it was on the same level, it felt like we had a lot of privacy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant had very delicious food for dinner. The local shops and restaurants were all very close to the hotel, and the closest beach was about a twenty minute walk away. There was a complementary transfer from the ferry port and back again, and free bike rental through the hotel.

Great hotel in a great location. We didn't have lunch or dinner in the hotel but the breakfast was lovely and well stocked. We also had a couple of drinks on the terrace outside which is lovely in the afternoon sun, the staff are also very friendly. Check in and out was very smooth and the hotel send instructions prior to the stay on what to expect to comply with Covid regulations. All in all will definitely stay there again when visiting Schiermonnikoog.

The room is really cozy and welcoming, and has an amazing view to the white Southern Tower of the island. The hotel itself is well positioned in the center of town, never far from any of the sights within the town's bounds. The breakfast was not as diverse as you might find it in hotels of similar ratings in big cities, but compensated thoroughly with its amazing service, the fantastic music taste of the owners and the overall great quality of the food.

The experience in the Hotel was strongly influenced by the extraordinary heat that evening. I am sure that 95% of the time A/C would not be needed and so was not expected, but it would have been brilliant to have in the circumstances. Everything else: spacious room, bed, cleanliness, large, modern bathroom and shower, dinner, breakfast, manager/host, staff, free taxi to ferry, easy access to a bike...made this overnight visit to the island special.

Amazing location, just a few minutes by cab or bus. Staff is the most amazing out there, we were there for a wedding and they really catered to the bride's and groom's every need! I had the room with the sauna and spa bath, it was rather warm due to the blazing hot weather, but thankfully there was a fan present in the closet. Breakfast was amazing as well. All in all I'd choose this hotel if I'd visit the island again!

The overall hotel experience was very lovely. The location was ideal and even though the hotel rooms were a bit old and not the best design, they were in great condition and clean. Beautiful place for dining. Fabulous breakfast and so welcoming staff. I had one of the most inresting and tasty burgers. And we did not have problem with chaning our dates which I booked incorrectly by mistake.

It’s in the heart of the only town on the island and is close to the ferry terminal. The building is nice and has some charm. The included breakfast was good and there was plenty of outdoor covered seating. We ate dinner one night and it was pretty good too. Lots of bike parking right out front which is key on the island.

The restaurant and outside of the hotel are beautifull. The hotel is located in the centre of town so you don't have to go far to reach the shops and there is a busstop outside the hotel so the connection to the ferry and the beach are perfect. Breakfast in the restaurant was lovely.

centrally located and clean, with a view of the primary street of Schiermonnikoog. luckily it is never too crowded or noisy in Schier, even in summertime, so it’s a great place to get away if you can manage to get a room. friendly staff and great food in the restaurant.

Suites are in the annex down the road. Balcony overlooks the gardens of the houses next door (avoid ground floor), nice enough but don't expect anything scenic Very efficient transfer from the ferry and check-in. Living room was great.
