The road (4 miles) to Bampton from Shap is extremely narrow with few passing places here and there and has to be driven with great care because you can meet buses, lorries and farm vehicles. The road (2 miles) from Bampton to Haweswater is equally narrow and has to be driven with great care.

Haweswater Hotel is miles from anywhere so a lot of driving needed , as for all the Lakes I presume. Perfect if you want peace and quiet, great views and wonderful walks. Bampton village itself is very small with few facilities.

The area is quiet, accessed by narrow lanes all worth exploring . The hamlet of Bampton sold the cheapest petroleum for miles. Locals were delightful. Be prepared to travel for 30-50 minutes to reach other key locations in The Lakes.

If like me you are not a seasoned walker take the lower walk at the bottom of the reservoir which snakes around a peninsula and gives unbelievable views. Eat dinner at the Hotel during your stay the food and services are top quality. Weather permitting take time to have a drink on the seats at the front/side of the Hotel and just enjoy the peace.

Excellent base location for walkers who want to get straight out on to the fell. Haweswater and the surrounding hills are a perfect jumping off point for those wanting to join high street and other ranges in the lakes.

Great view out the front of the hotel (and probably the rooms in front if you’re lucky enough to nab one!). The restaurant was spectacular — the food and service was great. We both loved how the Art Deco theme in the hotel carries throughout everything. We also both love the historic photos and things from the area before the dam was built—very interesting! Lastly, the music was fantastic as well — it set such a romantic atmosphere for the whole building (but that’s speaking as someone who really loves music from the 40s and 50s!).

we arrived to a warm welcome, check in was smooth and no issues, our room was on the top floor, quirky lay out but nice, huge comfy bed tea coffee all you could ask for, we have drinks in the bar before changing for dinner, We ate dinner in the Brassiere, then retired to the launch for drinks, service and food was as expected of the Hotel credentials.Breakfast was served opposed to a buffet which suits our needs, shame about the boxed cereals we would have expected something different.

This hotel is in a superb location for plenty of picturesque walks/hikes! Our hotel room (Mardale) was spacious and clean, it was slightly cold at times but was understandable due to the age of this property. wi-fi was often difficult to receive, but wasn’t a problem as it was actually quite nice to switch off for a few days! all staff were very friendly and helpful at all times, and very doggy friendly which was great!

The staff were lovely, especially the general manager that nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was very nice apart from our poached eggs were firm not runny. The hotel itself was stunning, room was perfect and the view was amazing. Only small issue we had was the toilet flush was temperamental ( would not complain as our stay was lovely and has gave us happy memories to remember).

I cannot imagine a more idyllic location. This should be a movie set it’s so beautiful. From the staff to the original art deco details and the gorgeous gardens it’s hard to believe this place is real. The food was absolutely amazing: breakfast, lunch, and both dinner restaurants. Beautiful and comfortable common rooms and exquisite scenery. I want to move in to this hotel.

We were impressed by the home from home feel when we entered the hotel. The Manager was on hand welcoming guests which was nice. We ate breakfast on both mornings and found everything to be nicely served and tasty, also the staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them. The background music was very relaxing and the views from the hotel were stunning

Beautiful hotel which was perfectly located for our visit. Fab views out onto the reservoir. Our room had a plunge bath which my usually non-bath loving husband was obsessed with! Great drinks in the bar (both selection and taste) and the food was fantastic in both the restaurant and bar. Super friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you.

The location was beautiful, the drive in was a little trick on essentially a single lane road but it was beautiful. The staff were exceptional, as were the meals in the hotel itself. They have a nice little pub area, beautiful benches and tables outside overlooking the loch and the main dinner was delicious with a nice selection of wine.

Pretty much everything. Lovely hotel in a beautiful spot with art-deco furnishings and amazing food. Also if you’re up for it, there’s an 11 mile walk around the lake to get your appetite for the evening meal. We had a Junior Suite which was lovely and had a side view of the lake. Highly recommend.

Amazing location, although narrow roads to get the the hotel were an experience! Beautiful hotel, stunning location, and the staff were brilliant. Enjoyed the step back in time, no mobile signal was a benefit as it made you sit back and relax and enjoy the full experience.

Epic. A hugely evocative hotel due to carefully curated furnishings (the result of a singular vision?). Very good restaurant. Our room was large, well appointed and had impressive views of the reservoir through all three windows. Excellent staff.

Lovely hotel. Great place to stay if you want to get away from it all. Just be careful and check your SATNAV as it took me down a road with warning signs saying that your vehicle is not insured if you drive on this road. Go via Shap on the A6.
