The idea base camp for time spent in the Westfjords region.
The idea base camp for time spent in the Westfjords region. If you have a rental car, you can drive anywhere else you'd like to see, but Ísafjörður has the most options for town activities. The location in the fjord is incredible. I would visit again.

This town is wonderful and quaint.
This town is wonderful and quaint. The setting is stunning, with mountains surrounding the entire town. The people there are very friendly, and it is easy to walk around. The streets have beautiful flower plantings, and there is a fun nughtclub where you can meet local townspeople. We highly recommend it!

Stayed two nights in this gem of a town.
Stayed two nights in this gem of a town. First night we camped and it was a fantastic campground. Second night was calling for snow so stayed in the hostel. Best Bonus grocery store we have seen with prices much less than anywhere else in Iceland.

Interesting in itself; however, you need a car to explore the area. Side roads, not too difficult, lead to many beautiful sights. I probably said "Wow" more in the few days in Westfjords than any other time.

The drive to Isafjorour we stopped at Dynjandi Waterfall...
The drive to Isafjorour we stopped at Dynjandi Waterfall called Thundering Waterfall. It is actually several waterfalls topped by a bridal veil large fall. Well worth the steep hike up. One of the most beautiful waterfall we visited in Iceland. The drive back toward Reykjavik was stunning along five fjords and many waterfalls. Glacier views. Lava fields. And mountains. So wanted to eat at Tjoruhusid. But needed a reservation and could not get in. Recommend making a reservation before you leave home. A perfect ending to our trip to the Westfjords.

Our location was in the center of the historic district,...
Our location was in the center of the historic district, which made it easy for walking to everything. I enjoyed the architecture of the colorful houses in the Old Town neighborhood, The Heritage Museum, and getting fresh seafood from Fiskbud Sjavarfangs, the market down by the harbor. My daughter took a boat tour to Hornstrandir Peninsula for a day, but the weather was not conducive for outdoor activities during our stay so that curtailed the activities that we were interested in doing. We had two delicious fish dinners at Husid and an amazing buffet dinner at Tjoruhusid, which is in an historic log building down by the Heritage Museum. You have to make reservations ahead and they have 2 seatings for dinner. I have never seen such a huge variety of delicious soup, seafood, salads and desserts. Isafjordur is a charming little historic town with so many outdoor activity choices for all ages, fun shopping for handcrafted items and great fresh seafood.
The apartment was quiet, modern and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable. It was useful having a washing machine as we were mid-way through our stay in Iceland and we were able to dry our clothes on the washing line (the weather was warm and sunny during our stay). There is a clothes airer to use inside if the weather is inclement. Guests can use the garden and patios to enjoy good weather. The apartment is just five minutes' walk into town. Sigridur was friendly, helpful and suggested places we could visit.
Okay guesthouse in Ísafjörður. Stayed a couple of times, before and after trip to Hornstrandir (highly recommended!) (as well as for a couple of days last winter). The place is a cool historic building organised into apartments, with one kitchen and bathroom (generally) on each floor, so shared between 6 rooms. First room we had was tiny, second was bigger but on lower ground floor so people looking through the window/car lights shining in when people parked!
This is a wonderful opportunity to have an authentic experience staying is Isafjordur, a short walk from all parts of town. The kitchen is very well equipped, the yard was lovely to sit and have a drink, and the house was cozy for two adult and two children (young adults). The house has the normal quirks of an older home, which I believe should be considered a plus, not a minus.
Really nice studio apartment on the hill overlooking Isafjordur. Easy walk to restaurants, museums and stores. Comfortable beds, good pillows. Well equipped kitchen. Shower had good hot water and water pressure. Nice outdoor space with your own patio. Shared BBQ. Easy parking on the street. Good washer. Fridge had no freezer but our host stuck our ice packs in hers.
Great location within walking distance of most of Isafjodur. In an area of characterful old houses. Not at all touristy (yet). The house is old, and the interior staircase is steep and narrow, very typical of places in Iceland. We loved the area and the historic nature of the house. Completely comfortable and well-outfitted, with private garden a plus. Free parking in front.
everything!!! The staff was so kind, easy going and helpful. I loved the location and the room. I had read the reviews and was a bit worried it may be a bad experience. However, it was far from that as it was an absolutely amazing experience that I will never forget. for sure the utmost best hotel and really only hotel in all of Isafjordur.
A romantic cabin modernly furnished in the old town. It was sparkling clean, beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped and of good size. The location was perfect - close to a wonderful bakery, restaurants and stores. The only downside was the bathroom which was not comfortable. All in all we recommend this place
Very nice spacious and clean bungalow, right in the centre. The owners offer a private horse tour wish is really fun! Modern cottage with new utilities. Also private parking, everything is very well explained. Thank you for excellent stay and recommendation for best fish restaurant in Iceland !!!
The house is amazing with everything you need from the kitchen to the bathroom and a very convenient location next to the gas station, restaurants and attractions. The dining and living room is very comfortable with fit chairs and sofas and a tv with a big screen.
Good location, grocery store nearby, gotta take keys from the hotel. Small..ish dorms but good. Big kitchen and living space. Just bring your sleeping bag. Perfect place to stay to explore Isafjordur, pre or post Hornstrandir.
Beautiful room, with patio looking out onto the valley, river and pond. Nice bed and bathroom. Very nice dinner in restaurant. Included breakfast almost overwhelming. Location convenient for visiting sights.
The guesthouse is in a good location. Breakfast is served at the Hotel Isafjördur a few blocks away, so breakfast is not a typical guest-house experience but very cold and impersonal.
Property is in excellent condition. Decoration style awasome. Amenities all you could need. Best place to stay within our one month tour around Iceland.
