Kalabaka is a city with traditional houses and Meteora is very close. You can visit some of the monasteries. We went to the museum of physical history with animals and birds that lived there, which was very nice, to the mushroom museum and to the digital projection center of Meteora's history and culture. The food also was excellent.

The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal.
The monasteries of Meteora are place of spiritual renewal. The Byzantine art and the historic architecture elevate the soul. I was fortunate enough to half ten minutes alone in the chapels of both the Varlaam and Holy Trinity monasteries in between the flow of tourists and found it to be peaceful and prayerful. The natural scenery of the area, including the sunsets, has no equal anywhere I have been, and watching the sun change the colors of the rocks and the monastery buildings as it set in the west was truly amazing. Kalabaka is a bit built up and a mile or two further away from the rocks. Stay in Kastraki for a really Greek village experience.

Kalambaka is an interesting small town with many restaurants, gift shops, souvenirs shops. But the main attractions are the mountaintop monasteries from the 14-15th century that seem to float as you look up.
Taking a tour is very helpful because you get the history of the area and the monasteries, and you do not have to concentrate on driving.
Don’t forget to visit the Natural History Museum and the Mushroom Museum housed together. We have such respect for mushrooms now!

Upon arrival, the front desk gave some recommendations for a great restaurant, The Taverna to Paramithi. The food was great, (don't mind the cats) the live music was warm and generous. The bakeries were stellar. The e-bike rental shop on Ioanninon St. was a good find.

Beautiful views, you can either walk around by foot (including hiking to all monasteries in area) or take guided tour. There's also climbing area. Food is delicious. Perfect choice for 2-3 days trip to escape from city.
The hotel is perfect for visitors to the monasteries - there are a lot of places to park the car in front of the hotel. The hotel is very nice with comfortable rooms and facilities. The staff is unique - very polite and cooperative. The breakfast is rich and tasty - local delicious dishes are included. Definitely I would recommend the hotel to my relatives and friends visiting Meteora. The location is perfect - it is in the central part of the town with a lot of restaurants and shops around.
They had a nice selection of food for breakfast, the most amazing view from our veranda and a nice relaxing and quiet location. Our veranda is relaxing as you can see the meteora mountains. It's so beautiful it's a shame we only stayed the one night. The owner is lovely and helpful and his wife is Australian as well. We would come back if we had another opportunity to visit and stay longer. It's the best hotel to book if you want the surreal view and the relaxing monastery hotel vibe.
This is a very clean, comfortable, stylish family-run pension hotel, very short walking distance to several excellent taverna restaurants, and with views of some of the Meteora rock formations and Orthodox monasteries. A short drive to the main roads that lead to the monasteries. We had a very comfortable room with a shaded balcony, table and chairs. Also, an excellent continental breakfast each morning in the front sitting room.
The staff were welcoming and very customer-focused. The room was clean and we had a great view of the Meteora rock formations as well as one of the monasteries. The garden area was quiet and offered a great place to have a beverage and play Tavli. The breakfast was expansive and included items from their garden. Parking was convenient and the hotel was close to many bars and restaurants.
Nice, clean and modern property in Meteora, a quick drive to the sights and the shops. We loved everything about the hotel - very spacious and well decorated rooms, well done breakfast with coffee options, friendly staff and it is a much much nicer place than anything you will find around the central Kalambaka area so we didn’t mind the quick 3-5 min drive to Mirabilis.
Good location a short taxi ride from the train station, and a short walk to the heart of Kalabaka village. The staff were very helpful. They made arrangements for us to take a taxi to the monasteries and viewpoints of Meteora. We also were given an upgrade to a larger room with balcony and view looking up at Saint Stephens monastery. The breakfast was included and good.
Wonderful family-run hotel in a great location on the main street. Walking distance from train station and tour offices and amenities. Zak was extremely helpful with advising the best way to see the sights of Meteora and helped arrange bicycles to hire etc. Very nice breakfast on the balcony and Zak also very helpful in accommodating my late checkout. Thank you!
Best view from the hotel "ever". Front desk person was very helpful. We reached after midnight in rain and lost our way in dark. He answered our call and came over to us to guide us to the hotel. Location is difficult to find in the night, even with Google maps. Breakfast had amazing selection. I'd say staying at this hotel was a highlight of our Greece trip.
The location, view, earthy decor, friendly staff and super comfortable beds. Oikia was the best hotel we have stayed in during our four week vacation in Greece. Early morning hike to Varlaam monastery was amazing!!!
Thank you for the travel tips and complimentary cappuccinos:)
First of all the hostel was very clean . Also owner of the hotel very helpful person even he gave me skirt for the wear during the meteora tour :) 15 minutes walk from the train station and the bus staion for to go meteora just across the hostel
Very nice place thank you
This small hotel has a feeling of luxury, with views from our room of the majestic rock formations that make Meteora irresistible to tourists. The little extras, like in-room coffee and high-quality bed linens helped my husband and I enjoy our brief stay at this property.
Staff was very friendly, location is great, the hotel is beautiful, very relaxing. It is amazing to sit on their terrace and relax with a look to Meteora. Close to everything you need. They are giving all the necessary information if you are first time in Meteora.
This hotel definitely met my expectations. Perfect location for Meteora, warm and attentive service, generous breakfast with true greek options. Oh and the view !!!
So many options of restaurants close by.
Staff very helpful to make the most of our stay.
Amazing view, great location. The hotel is very clean and comfortable. Great value for price. The breakfast was also great and the host that welcomed us was very nice and helped us plan our trip for Meteora :)
