Very beautiful area. Also just a short trip to MI and MN.
Very beautiful area. Also just a short trip to MI and MN. We did Yooper rock hunting a couple nights at Black River Harbour & Little Girl Point, which was very fun. Lots and lots of waterfall hikes within 50 miles of Ashland. Even though it was rainy when we went, we had a great time. Would definitely recommend taking a Ferry to Madeline island. I would take a vehicle over, its quite a distance to walk or bike around the island. Definitely check out Big Bay Lagoon on Madeline island. Beautiful hike on a board walk around Lake Superior. So pretty!! Would have definitely toured the islands, but it was too cold and rainy the week we were there.

well you need to find a place to eat dinner there early because the places close early, like 8 p.m. El Charro Mexican restaurant is good in Ashland. We also ate at a Pub and Pizza place not far from the AmericInn that has sandwiches as well as pizza. Stay away from the Family Restaurant.

It was one night on a nine-day trip home, just the right distance between Bemidji, MN, and Newberry, MI.
We ate supper at the Deep Water Grill, over-rated in our opinion compared with the reviews we'd read while researching "restaurants near me" on the internet.

Ashland is a gorgeous little city right on the shores of Lake Superior. If you enjoy nature and consider it a critical part of a meaningful travel experience, you've found your place.
The town is rather quiet - at least in the late summer when I have visited - but if you like solitude, as I do, then all the better. Quirky little shops dot the downtown and there's a good selection of restaurants to eat at throughout the city. Personal recs: Ashland Family Restaurant and the Deep Water Grille
Another boon? You're right next door to verdant Bayfield County, where you can visit the Apostle Islands by ferry from Bayfield proper - about a 30 minute drive from Ashland (and it's a VERY scenic one). I cannot recommend this enough: if you find yourself one day under a clear, azure sky with few if any clouds in sight... go to the Apostles! The boat ride is fun and there's lots to do on Madeline Island.
Beautiful hotel and location for a city / town that is more industrial looking than some others on Superior. 1st floor rooms had super tall ceilings. not functional but it sure feels special. great balconies to sit on, fun bar in the hotel, right on the Marina and a walking/biking path the follows the shoreline. The bed was amazing.
We didn't think the breakfast was very good compared to other hotels we have stayed at. What was very good was the outdoor deck. We spent most of our time (when we were at the hotel) on that deck. Staff was really very nice. Gave us a great recommendation for a restaurant in town and we went there twice in one day.
Old-fashioned cabin-resort conveniently located between Ashland and Washburn on Chequamagon Bay (Lake Superior). Easy drive to anywhere in the Bayfield area. I enjoyed the 1960's "up north" rustic ambiance, but some might not. I do believe there are more "modern" cabins on the property.
We were there for our Dad's funeral and they went over the top for us. They made sure we had all our rooms together. Gary was just wonderful with everything we needed. We are coming back next weekend and it will definitely we our hotel we will always choose when we come to Ashland.
It was beautiful. The rooms were clean. The beds were very comfy. The staff was very courteous. The indoor pool was very refreshing. The breakfast was great. We'll be making this trip again very regularly and we'll only stay at this location.
The hotel is older and a little tired, but the rooms were quite updated and overall the public spaces were clean. It was pricey for what it is but then it's the high season and we were late in booking.
Breakfast was good and the dining area, beautiful. The staff members were professional and kind. Loved visiting Ashland. It's a great little spot in the world. Thank you!!!
Loved the fresh coffee every morning, and breakfast was excellent. The rooms were comfortable. Staff was excellent. Enjoyed our visit at Quality Inn-Ashland Lake Superior
Nothing likable beyond the location. I suppose the architecture is better than a typical hotel in the area, but there was no reason to spend time in the lobby.
