A great place to stay to enjoy some cooler temperatures, nature, birdlife and find those beautiful quetzals! Altitude is high, around 3000m so be prepared for that as you may have mild altitude illness which can impact the stay.

Tami Lodge is more than a place to stay.
Tami Lodge is more than a place to stay. The entire experience was enlightening, interesting, fun, and amazing. First, you must have 4x4 car to arrive. It’s a dirt road with lots of potholes and keeps wandering for several miles and all the time you think, where are we staying?! Then you arrive and when you see the “tents” your mouth drops open. Glamping is the way to go! The view was spectacular. We were worried about being cold but ended up being warm in bed. The shower looks out over the cloud forest. Then there are the people. Alonso checked us in and gave us wonderful explanations of the history and purpose of the lodge and the organization. We booked two tours through the lodge—the quetzal bird tour and the extreme forest adventure tour—both with Alonso as our guide. He’s great, very passionate about what he does. We saw about 10 quetzals, which exceeded our expectations. Our daughter really wanted to do the forest adventure, which was challenging. 😳. Three of us did it— 67, 63, and 30. Finally, the food was fantastic! I highly recommend this place. You’ll not forget it!

It was a short stay, but it´s a well-organized place.
It was a short stay, but it´s a well-organized place. The region is very quiet except for birdsongs and such. They do have short and long trails, and give the correct information about each type, which is great if you are traveling with a family with very different capabilities. The restaurant is great and they have a fireplace at night where guests can congregate. Also there is bird feeder just in front of the restaurant, and you can sit for quite a while practically in a cloud of hummingbirds. The only caution is that it´s quite cold at night (at least for me).

Providencia is a very nice small village and it seemed to us that they have a very active community. It is off the road, though. We drove the dirt road through the mountains around 40 to 50 minutes which was actually fun and quite adventurous. We had a four wheel drive, which is probably the best way to take the road. Once you are there it has so much to offer: Nature walks, bird watching, waterfalls etc...
