FAQs about hotels in Palermo

A Symbol of Sicily

Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.

Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theater, and across the street is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina, whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.

Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining the 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.

Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, an intersection with a fountain in each corner.

Other attractions include the round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodations.

It is a great place to visit, so much to see.

It is a great place to visit, so much to see. Great seafood in the Copa market, excellent food and locally grown vegetables We enjoyed all the cathedral and churches. We visited Izis castle, it was great to see the inside but getting there walking was not fun, there was so much trash every where and hard to walk around, the park around the castle was really in the bad shape. I wish local people and others place their cigaret buds in the trash rather than dropping them any where, Overall the city has been ignored and so much trash on the walking area. There were so much dog popo around and it was very hard to walk around the dog droppings.

Traffic is INSANE and there seems to be little organization to it. Plan on walking alot. Trains are inexpensive but only run every 30 minutes, so make sure not to miss it. The trains are very crowded and everyone just shoves there way on. You can buy allday pass for train or train and buses. We did the old market one morning and the Capuchin catacombs that evening. Hire a guide for the catacombs for the best experience. Would have liked to spend 4-7 days here, but due to travel issues we only had 1.5 days.

There isn't much we liked about Palermo.

There isn't much we liked about Palermo. We booked a nice apartment with a very friendly host. The Marina was nice (but tiny), and a few cafes (Teco, Morettino CoffeeLab, Bar Vabres). Apart from that, it was a rather unpleasant experience: dirty, noisy, rainy (that's probably bad luck) and with many unfriendly people. We did not expect that.

    So much history to Palermo.

So much history to Palermo. It's a gritty city and driving is the craziest I've ever experienced (but I loved it at the same time). Driving in Rome is simple compared to Palermo---but that is also the vibe. We had a great tour with a great city historian and were fascinated to learn so much about all the past cultures of this city. Quick trips to Monreale and Cefalu were great excursions. A longer trip to Agrigento was well worth it. We are so happy we decided to stay in Palermo.

Palermo has great street food markets which were very lively, even though it was January. You can reach nice sand beaches even with a short bus trip . The small harbor area is nice. The city itself was a bit dirty and especially for far distances sometimes not easy to walk. I have been to more astonishing places in Italy and even on Sicily, but I'm still glad me made the trip and had the experience. For just Palermo I think 4 days are sufficient.

The location of the property is amazing! One of the main steets is like a few minutes walk and despite of that the street of the apartament is calm, so you can have a good night sleep. Additionally, the property is very clean, comfortable and it offers delicious italian breakfast. The terrace gives you breathtaking views of the Palermo. Furthermore, the host ir very professional, hospitable, it seemed like you can ask Alessandro everything and get the best advices about the Palermo and all Sicily. Would definitely stay again!

One of the best apartment hotels I ever stayed in Italy. The location is great, right in the center close to most of the attractions. The apartment is newly renovated was very clean with attention to details. In the kitchen they had everything needed- a lot of coffee, salt, olive oil. The check-in was very easy - the guy responsible Valerio was super nice and very helpful reachable by phone all the time. Our coffee was finished and Valerio and his colleague was so nice to bring more for us ( they didn’t have to at all).

Was the best room we rent in Sicily and general in Italy. The owner she was amazing. Warm welcome and she help us with our luggages. The location is amazing in 5min you are in center of Palermo and the most important monuments. In 2min walking is a free open parking, we park there our car without any issues. Every morning even the breakfast was not included they prepare coffee to my husband. And they clean the room every day. Amazing atmosphere and decoration. Highly recommended. We really enjoyed our stay here. It was a nice welcome to Sicily! Christine the host was easy to communicate with and always quick to respond. The check-in was an easy process, and we just took a taxi from the airport on her recommendation as we weren't sure what was the best way to get there. It is truly a lovely apartment, the decor is beautiful and the rooms and balconies are very special. It is in a very walkable location and we just walked everywhere (also a short walk to the main train station).

The Bnb is like a beautiful piece of art in the old town of Palermo. We were in the room on the 3rd floor, it was super stylish, had a nice view to the old town and enough space for sitting comfortably on two armchairs and a table inbetween. The staff was very nice to us and gave us very useful suggestions about what to do and where to eat well in the city. It was the best accommodation during our stay in Sicily. Is an absolute recommendation for everyone to stay here!
