Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.
Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.
From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.
Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.
Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.
In Helsinki one is never far from the Baltic. Harbour full of ice floes during our February visit, nevertheless we were surprised to see hardy Finns tripping out of saunas and immersing themselves the literally freezing sea. The centre of Helsinki can easily be explored on foot in a matter of 48 hours- much fine architecture. Highlights: Oodi (Helisnkis's Central Library), Uspenski Cathedral, Old Market Hall (packed with pop-up eateries), Esplanade Park, Stockmann Department store, and Helsinki Cathedral.

Helsinki is a fantastic city that hides well its treasures.
Helsinki is a fantastic city that hides well its treasures. Take time to discover it, as well as the surroundings, its subculture, its great specialty and slow food cafes and restaurants, its nature and museums. That does not show immediately but once you start digging, you are up for an exceptional experience

The city is nice, laid-back and full of really nice people. But we faced an unfortunate incident where my wife's purse got picked at Senate Square and the entire cash was gone. I later heard that this is common across Helsinki. One should be extremely careful about personal belongings.

The reason I arrived was a live concert i promised myself to go. The weather was not perfect but it wasn’t bad neither. It’s obvious it’s cold in January in Helsinki.
There are many nice places to eat. Check the port area for some nice bites.

It's a great little city in the Northern Europe.
It's a great little city in the Northern Europe. If you expect something magical, than probably better to avoid it. It's freezing cold (-25C is normal in January) so dress properly. To maximize the utility of winter stay, probably try to catch snow. Then Helsinki is magical.

Firstly my only criticism of the hotel was that at breakfast when I went at 9am the hot food was always dry like it had been out on the buffet for a long time rather the replenishing it regularly.
The hotel staff were great, very polite and very helpful
Helsinki was very interesting I wish I had booked a couple of extra days
The Apartment is indeed very well connected with the public Transport System. With a few steps you can get to the Tram and Bus lines, but we didn't notice any traffic noise in the night. Even the metro is in comfortable walking Distance.
On top of that there are many great Restaurants in the area wich are much cheaper that the ones in the City Center!
Also the public Saunas in the area are much cozyer and more authentic than the ones in the City Center.
The owner is very friendly and flexible, kind regards and many thanks!
Very handy location, 10 mins from citycentre by tram, 15 by foot, in a leafy part of town. Right nect to the beautiful Töölö bay, next to Opera House. Tons of really good restaurants in the area, almost better selection than city center that has a lot of fast food or expensive places. Hotel has beautiful decor. I got my favourite room second time: awesome view over the bay. Rooms are spacious, very well cleaned, well equipped and tastefully decorated. Very quiet. This hotel is on my ideal Helsinki hotel lust on position 1.
First of all, hats off to the staff. Always there to help, and welcome each guest with a big smile.
This new, modern, spacious hotel, with a great view from the rooftop terrace, is located near a bus and tram stop, and it takes only a 10-minute ride to get to the city center.
The breakfast here was nothing short of amazing! So many options to choose from, all fresh and delicious.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I only wish the bathroom area was bigger.
There was an up to 2h free parking on the side of the road in front of the hotel, and it was free all night, it saved us. The parkings are not cheap in Helsinki.
24h grocery shop downstairs.
Typical Finnish apartment, soundproof and well ventilated. The third bed is in a little tiny space separated by a sliding door.
Blackout curtains.
The staff was very friendly and always ready to help. He also responses pretty fast. He is also very considerate as well. Very clean and spacious. Quiet neighborhood and modern building. It is 25 minutes drive from the city center and the airport but it is a great place.
You are all not invited to come enjoy this facility.😄
The rooms are very nice, very well equipped and look like brand new! You also can use the common kitchen and other areas if you like. The communication is convenient between the airport and the hotel and the city center. I could see myself staying here also for longer period (during a business trip for example).
10km or so from city center but only a 10-min walk to the metro station mean saving a bunch on hotel cost but still a convenient location! A supermarket and a few restaurants congregate around the metro station. Clean, modern and fairly well equipped apt.
The hotel is close to the port and 15 minutes walk or 5 minutes tram ride to city center. Room was on a small size with maritime decor. Bathroom big and clean. Breakfast was one of the best I ever had with very nice staff.
We wanted a city center hotel and the location was great but the cost was high considering we slept in a windowless basement room. I really liked the rain shower. Beds were comfortable and clean. Staff was very helpful.
The hotel is located in the city center near the Bus station, in the very nice place.
The breakfast was excellent (I stayed before in Sokos hotels, and the breakfast was one of the reason why I selected this hotel).
Great location, tram in front of the hotel, only 5 stops to the city center, just a few stops to the ferry to Tallinn, great and modern room and cozy lobby. I can highly recommend it.
Great hotel in a great location in the city center.
Good breakfast, although not that fantastic for the official price indicated (av 28€ per person).
Quiet and very clean rooms.
Clean, very comfortable, spacious, exceptional excellent service, comfortable bed and room. Really wish we would have stayed here instead of the other city center hotel.
