We love Arras.
We love Arras. It's a shame we only ever stay enroute while travelling to the South of France. We've decided that we will make a proper holiday in the city in the future and take time to enjoy this vibrant place, as well as exploring the history and the WW1 battlefields.

Patisserie - Au Merveilleux De Fred - excellent - small domed bon bon cakes in a variety of flavours and some raisin bread that was great Restaurants Maison Chochois - oh wow, meat lovers delight - has a butchery above where they work during the day. L'Oeuf ou le Poule - Chicken and egg best describes the menu - good lunch fare

if you love history,you will love Arras.Se the prehistoric reconstitution of Nemetacum,The "beffroi" (townhall) th 2 spanish style petite and grand'place.The dedale of war tunnels ,from the townhall. The town museum.I am born there,so I know! Many good restaurants,but we eat by the Christmas market. The main reason for our visit was to visit the Christmas Market which is one of the largest we have seen. At other times of the year there appear to be plenty of other places to visit and activities in the city or surrounding area. We ate out twice there - are certainly a lot more restaurants to try!

Arras has two beautiful squares - the Grande Place and the...
Arras has two beautiful squares - the Grande Place and the Place des Heros. The architecture is beautiful and the belfry and museum are very interesting. As well as some great shops, there's a very extensive market on a Saturday morning each week. At the moment there's a large and varied Christmas market each afternoon and evening. The surrounding area is of particular interest for details (and cemeteries) from the first world war. The centre of Arras isn't large so it's easy to walk from place to place.

Easy walk into the town squares for drinks and dinner, close to the station but the trains didn't bother us at all. Wonderful host and breakfast, great selection of interesting and local produce, really made us feel at home. Will definitely stay here again when passing through Northern France en route to elsewhere.
