The Quinta de Sao Luiz, where we were staying, made a reservation for us at a restaurant in Tabuaco. The drive to the restaurant was challenging due to the serpentine road and rainy weather. I don't think there was much to do in that small town, but we had an okay experience at the restaurant.

The trip to the Quinta was through some wonderful rambling winding roads in the Douro valley. There are many places to visit there, and although we thought the location was perfect, some might like a location closer to town and not so far from Porto.

Town in the hills, great view, beautiful park with a small fountain with 6 turtles and a turtle men who takes care of them (btw. he looks as a turle too 😄).
Our favourite place for dinner was Taverna next to a lovely church, which makes you laught in the evening between 8 And 9, how many it rigs the bell. Sisters who ran the Taverna are incredibly friendly and the food is amazing.
Don't Miss the chance to see the Most peculiar astronomical clock in the Information centre, which Is made by local cloackman. It is an absolutely unique masterpiece, only seen in Tabuaço and the lady from the Information centre will explain you all about it, except after the death of the creator, nobody can fix it 😄

If you are visiting the Douro Valley this town is not very far by kilometres but the road is slow with switch backs. If you intend to use it as a base to explore the Valley it is not the right place. The town itself is quaint it’s just a bit of a drive.
We wanted a quaint but fulfilling getaway in Douro Valley. We spent part of our honeymoon at this property and are thrilled that we did.
The views are incredible. The cottage we stayed in had a kitchenette, a living area with a view and a porch that was hard to leave.
This stay requires a drive and the closest restaurants are about a 15-minute drive but if you bring a few items for meals, it simplifies the travel. Anywhere you stay in the “mountains,” a remote experience is expected. We loved Edna, who runs the property.
The property is fabulous! it’s like being in small luxury boutique hotel. The location is fantastic on a vineyard, the views are beautiful!
The room was beautifully appointed, with lash robes etc. There is a pool with the view of the vineyards.
The pre fix dinner was delicious ($40 pp), the wine you can buy on the premises delicious. you can have a wine tasting at certain times.
And something what we noticed and it’s unusual: amazing pillows!!! yes, pillows were great!
Overall amazing stay!
We liked everything! A little paradise in the heart of Douro! The view from the property is amazing on the vineyards and the Douro valley. The house is very clean and well equipped. I personally enjoyed the quality of the bed and the bed linen. The swimming pool is perfect to relax. There is a barbecue available which is perfect to grill some fish or meat! The village is very quiet and peaceful. If you want to immerse yourself into rural Portugal, it is the perfect place.
People from Quinta do Monte Travesso are exceptional hosts. Very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The Casa da Tilia is a lovely and comfy house to relax and enjoy the calm of the Douro Valley. Wines from the property are delicious, and the tasting + tour is good and instructive as well. We enjoyed the sun, relaxed in the garden and the pool and we left with a feeling of peace and rest.
The family hosts were amazing, always available and exceptionally helpful. The property and location are stunning and the surrounding areas of the Douro valley are all within easy reach. This is a magical part of Portugal. If you intend to explore the Douro, or just relax, the Padrela Winery House is an exceptional to stay.
The location was beautiful and our hosts were very accommodating. We enjoyed learning about the Quinta and the Douro Valley area. Wine tasting was excellent. Jose provided us with some great restaurant recommendations, and ideas for visiting in the area. Theresa was a great communicator and answered all our questions.
Our overall score reflects our satisfaction with the hotel. Staff were very attentive and eager to know if everything was ok. Breakfast was good and could be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the Douro. Our room was very comfortable with a terrace, again overlooking the river, and included a coffee machine.
Wow! We arrived with our two teenagers for a 24 hour trip from Porto and what a treat! The views are breathtaking as was the hotel, the food and the wine. The view from the pool was incredible and I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a perfect taste of the Douro Valley.
The room was very nice and had great heat (we were here in the Winter). Breakfast was nice. Nice location for exploring the Douro valley. Cute small town. Scenic drive to get to the hotel. They gave us a gift of olive oil at the end of our stay, which we appreciate.
It's a beautiful property inside and out -- many excellent design decisions. We enjoyed walking around the Adorigo village (Tabuaço district) an authentic Douro neighborhood. It's a fun ten minute drive up twisty roads from the river at Quinta do Tedo.
This is a boutique hotel with a feeling of home. The hospitality was excellent. The room is very cozy and clean, excellent and varied breakfast. The owner of the hotel is also a chef and has a restaurant near the hotel, it is recommended to visit it.
Lovely big room. Quite remote location. Pretty little village. Hotel has a restaurant which is a big bonus. Close to wineries and probably the nicest place to stay seeing the other large villages. Very quaint village. Free parking all around.
A charming hotel in a picturesque town in the middle of the Douro Valley. It was a pleasure to meet a charming hostess who made every effort to help us and make our stay enjoyable, despite not speaking English.
It was out of season and the hotel was extremely quiet. It was just a one night stopover and the weather was appalling.
Staff were very helpful and breakfast just as we ordered.
The cottage at Quinta do Esphino was absolutely amazing. Ana was the most welcoming and helpful host ever. The vineyard grounds and the location in the Douro are perfect.
