Hastings always has a lot to offer but going off season means a lot of the places are not open. But there is still plenty to see and do good variety of coffee shops restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. St Leonard’s, Bexhill, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within driving distance. George st has loads of quirky shops to browse in. In peak season the fair ground and amusement arcades are great for the kids. Highly recommended.
Maggies is best for fish & chips
Two bulls for steak. Or go to Bentleys steakhouse in bexhill for the best steak experience plenty of Italian eateries. And there are 3 great wet fish and seafood outlets at Rockanoor

We loved the vibrancy of independent shops and cafes in the Old Town, the mixture of fishing heritage and culture and seaside. Freshly made pizzas created and served with love at Monellis not to be missed.

Lovely seaside town for a day.
Lovely seaside town for a day. But one more day to do The Battle Abbey which is 17 mins train ride and very easy. A few nice restaurants like the Thai in the book shop, Ladle was fantastic and so was the Porters Sunday roast (the veg roast option was delicious). The contemporary art museum had two very good exhibitions, and the shipwreck museum plus the fisherman’s museum were nice to walk through. The local history house is very nice and worth spending 15-30 mins. The book shop (the hare and hawthorn) is lovely.

Hastings has an eclectic feel with lots of interesting shops, cafes and bars. Good quality for meals, vintage shops selling fascinating items at reasonable prices. Easy to navigate by car or on foot and when you need to escape retail therapy or walk off some of the extra calories, the beach and promenade are relaxed and safe. It's less edgy than Brighton but friendly and especially dog friendly.

This is such a nice accommodation.
This is such a nice accommodation. Everything about it made our visit to Hastings better. Classy details, wonderful breakfast, and a caring, kind host are among the highlights of our stay here. Taxis are easy to hire and made getting around simple.

The shipwreck museum right by the beach parking lot was a delightful surprise. It's free entry, donations appreciated (and well-deserved). The two tall hills in town look daunting at first, but you can climb to the top relatively quickly. The castle on the west hill is only open on weekends, but you are able to view the outside of the ruins pretty well. There are numerous shops up and down the hilly streets we didn't have time to visit, which was a shame. It you are looking for a white sand beach where you can lay out and tan, keep looking. The beach here is all large pebbles. We ate dinner at The Crown, a gastro pub with an eclectic menu and cozy interior. We had a drink of some great cider at the Jenny Lind where we also spent the night. The town is a great place to spend a day, especially if you don't mind walking. It's also only a 20 minute drive from Battle, site of the Battle of Hastings and the famous abbey that was then built on the battlefield.
I had a single room for a good price overlooking the seafront. Nice, spacious entrance hall, working lift, rooms well signposted. Basic room, had tea/coffee making facilities, desk and chair, tv. Nice strong shower over bath. Bed comfortable, under window that could open to let some fresh air in. It's a basic hotel, but for the location and price it is very good. In Hastings you're probably out and about all day anyway.
Stayed at Astral Lodge once before and enjoyed it so thought we'd book again. Excellent beachfront location with short walk to shops, bars, restaurants etc.. It looks like the place has been refurbished a bit so very fresh looking hotel.. Staff very friendly on arrival and departure. No complaints at all and will book again on next trip to Hastings. Highly recommend and good value for money - Well run establishment!!
The hotel is a beautiful Victorian building situated on the sea front in Hastings, so is close to shops, cafes and bars and sight seeing is within walking distance. It is privately owned and from the outside looks like it has been recently painted. We had a sea view room and the room was large and spacious. There was some parking at the front of the hotel and street parking available also.
Hotel in good location on the seafront within close walking distance to entertainment and local amenities. 7 minutes walk from Hastings Rail Station. Room, seaview with balcony, clean, cosy and inviting. Nice size shower room. Breakfast not included in booking price but well worth paying the extra for a full English Breakfast. Staff friendly and cooperative. Would stay there again.
This isn’t a hotel - it’s a guesthouse. So you’re emailed key details which you unlock from a key safe. But it’s GREAT. Really nice touches - huge towels are something most hotels should pick up on - and very safe and secure. Right by Hastings train station and it will take you less than 5 mins to walk down to the sea. Book with total confidence. It’s like having your own apartment.
I found my experience at the Eagle House Hotel to be exceptional very close to the beach well maintained and the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant all the basics recovered very good Wi-Fi spacious from an exceptional breakfast in the morning thanks again and I will be staying here ear in the near future when Hastings.
We were walking from Rye to Hastings with our two teenage daughters. We received a wonderful welcome from Vincent. The Parisian interiors made the stay luxurious as did the wonderful food and exceptionally comfy bed. We even had our boots retuned like new the next morning. Thank you.
As I wanted to explore that part of Hastings, the location was ideal. The hotel was immaculately clean. The garden was a suntrap and the road noise was not excessive. The host offered me a room upgrade, which was appreciated. The room I originally booked was very reasonably priced.
The staff throughout the hotel were lovely. Room was clean, spacious, and beds were very comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was delicious. Location wasnt far from town, about 30min walk or a bus stop is located right outside. Also the back garden is lovely and well kept too.
Exceptional breakfast. Warm and helpful host. Hotel was beautifully decorated in Victorian style with every detail attended to down to the last marmalade spoon. Worth it simply to experience the decor, but cake and tea on the lawn on arrival was a real highlight!
Comfortable room, good service, friendly staff, Sarah explained all the details regarding the hotel and the room clearly and in full.
Overall a very enjoyable stay and I will certainly book there again the next time I'm in Hastings.
What a nice change from tiny hotel rooms. We were able to spread out. Our unit was in a quiet shady section. All amenities (except towels) are provided. Good communication from staff.
Terry at dinner was wonderful my parents thought she was great. The guy at reception was very helpful and patient with our room change and honoured the deal we had secured
We loved staying in The Retro Retreat it was a decorated with amazing pieces of nostalgia. It is so well positioned to get into Hastings and easy to find .
