Whitley Bay is an up and coming town with some lovely shops.
Whitley Bay is an up and coming town with some lovely shops. It also has easy access to Newcastle and the surrounding area by road and by Metro. In the summer Whitley Bay is busy but in the winter it is much quieter.
I have visited this town many times while visiting my daughter. On this occasion my visit was not a holiday; I was helping my daughter to move house.

Whitley Bay is ideally place for walks along the coastal path both North up to Blyth and South down to South Shields and the pretty Souter lighthouse.
Be sure to try to time a visit to St Mary's lighthouse for a spot of seal spotting.
The walks along the promenades down to Tynemouth are all on the level with plenty of eating and drinking options.
If time allows be sure to get the tram into Newcastle Central and the train from there to Durham to visit the marvellous cathedral and castle

I loved the walks along the coast to the lighthouse and to see Spanish City. In the opposite direction it is nice to walk along the coast to Cullercoats and on to Tynemouth. The walks are peaceful and the little shops at Tynemouth are lovely. There are plenty of coffee shops along the way and fish and chip shops if you get peckish. Parking is relatively cheap in Cullerboats but you may need to wait if the car park is busy, for someone to get chatting to.

Beautiful beach with lovely Tynemouth nearby.
Beautiful beach with lovely Tynemouth nearby. Whitley Bay has a good selection of restaurants and is easy to walk around.
Good eateries: Pablo Eggagobao, Valerie's and the Beehive at Earsdon that we tried were excellent.
Worth the effort to take the metro into Newcastle for the day. Great oysters and cocktails to be found at Fenwicks and a good selection of local and exotic food at stalls in Granger Market.
Last minute stay. No issues. Easy access and contact from owner. Lush and extremely clean. Everything you could need. Next door to the Nisa shop and clubhouse. Waking up to have breakfast with the sea view from the patio doors was a highlight. Dog friendly too always a bonus.
Bus stops outside to Newcastle or Blyth or quick way of getting into Whitley bay etc. Very quiet and comfy beds. Lovely little walks to the lighthouse recommended.
Can't wait to stay again we loved it didn't want to come home
Stayed 2 nights to enable me to run the Great North Run. Comfortable room in wonderful farm house set in pleasant rural location with super friendly and helpful staff (John & Trish). 3 friendly and well behaved dogs made it feel homely along with the horses and donkey. Plenty of parking space and access to the metro which will take you to the centre of Newcastle and also on a pleasant journey along the coast which is well worth exploring. Very enjoyable stay Thanks David from Bristol.
Location is lovely, my room had a sea view. Decoration throughout was clean and fresh. Staff were lovely and made you feel very welcome. Breakfast was tasty and large portions. Car park five minute walk and cheap at £3 for all day parking. Location and transport great we stayed here as going to a gig at St James's Park in Newcastle and other guests were going to Stadium of Light in Sunderland for a gig. Lots of shops, pubs and of course Spanish City within walking distance.
Whitley bay is gorgeous and The Metropolitan is so close to the beach and lots of bars and restaurants but in a quiet street with parking.
Ordering breakfast was easy and lots of choice for something a bit more special. It was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented with friendly, helpful service.
I couldn’t fault anything if I wanted to. It is the best place I’ve ever stopped in in the North East.
The location was superb, right next to the beach and a 5 minute walk from the town centre. A perfect base for me and my family whilst visiting our family in Whitley Bay. We took the kids paddle boarding at the neighbouring Cullercoats beach. Highly recommended! The hotel was clean and the beds comfortable, thank you for the warm welcome and thank you for a lovely stay! We’ll be back next time!!
The location was very good. Close to the sea as well as the shops. Road was nice and quiet. Nice to have an off road parking space. The message sent about the keysafe was easy to understand. The sitting room was nice and bright. The beds were reasonably comfortable and the main bedroom was nice and dark, whereas the back bedroom, although nice and quiet, was not very dark in the morning.

Wendy was absolutely lovely and so helpful, gave us lots of great recommendations which we followed and enjoyed! Room was quiet and comfortable and guest house is in a great location close to the seafront. On-street parking with no restriction to front of hotel. Also really handy for shops, pubs etc.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially the lady who checked me in. I was able to park in the hotel car park for the duration of my stay. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were clean. I liked the fact that I could open the window in my room for some fresh air.
Great apartment, very well equiped with all the essentials provided for a comfortable stay.
Excellent location for exploring Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, Tynemouth, Newcastle, Seaton Deleval and a great base for exploring the whole of the North East region.
Breakfast was delicious, host Michael was very accommodating with a slightly later check in due to my train as well as of assistance with my departure arrangements. Lovely hotel, 5 mins walk from town and coast and only half hour metro to Newcastle
This is a great hotel for location - down one end of the road is the train into town, down the other is the beach. Staff really nice too and helped me carry my bag up the stairs to the room and got me a hairdryer when I asked.
Very clean bathroom, with plenty of hot water. Room had a fabulous view. Very centrally located. Good car parking near. Great breakfast served by a very lovely lady.
Spotlessly clean, with all the comforts of home, close to a beautiful beach, good eateries, and bars, with the Metro to Newcastle, just 10 minutes walk away.
