Small town in beautiful Davis Mountains.

Small town in beautiful Davis Mountains. Unique area of West Texas. Don’t miss Hwy 118 (any direction) for Scenic drives. Don’t miss Balmorhea Springs State Park just up the road. Snake & Reptile museum very interesting. Don’t miss Big Bend Ranch State Park!!! Beautiful drive, up close views of the Rio Grande and Mountains. Enter from Terlinqua, Tx (south of Alpine) or Presidio, Tx (south of Maria) Try Marfa Burritos for breakfast or lunch.

Perfect middle town to stay at if you need a break from the drive from Big Bend to your final destination! Really nice people, beautiful views, and centrally located. But remember it is a small town and don’t depend on the restaurants or bars in this town to serve in any decent time frame. Just know that it will take time (about an 1.5) to get your food (45 for chips and Salsa) and you may never see your drinks you ordered, if you are on a time crunch of less than two hours. The staff at each place is so kind and all are trying, but they are short staffed like most places are.

The view and scenery were great!!!

The view and scenery were great!!! Lots of parking and would be a wonderful RV site. Our room only had one electrical outlet working. We tried to report so they could fix it but no staff appeared to understand our problem and it was not fixed. The floor was gritty. Only chair in room was worn and appeared dirty.

4 Stars out of 10, regrettably.

4 Stars out of 10, regrettably. The town is more than you'd expect in a place with only ~1400 residents. It a great base to make your way to the River Road along the Rio Grande and Big Bend NP, as well as closer attractions like Fort Davis and McDonald Observatory. Our stay in this cool little town was marred by significant trouble with our hotel bills, though. I had stayed at the Limpia Hotel twice in 2003-2005 and recommended it to friends many times since. I was so looking forward to a return visit this Fall with 6 motorcycle buddies. I had always thought of it as one of my favorite places I’d stayed in all my travels. It’s a great venue – quaint, well-maintained, and a return to times past like you won’t find most anywhere else. Additionally, their restaurant serves great food with a great atmosphere. The front office was very accommodating in allowing us to leave a couple trucks with trailers in their parking lot over 3 days. However, after initially charging us our confirmed rates they then debited and credited us for odd amounts over and over and over during and after our stay, totaling 250% of our initial rate at one point. Getting it ironed out was so stressful it was hard to enjoy the rest of our trip. I made repeated calls to their office, to my bank, and my credit card issuer while trying to enjoy riding through Big Bend NP. The front desk told me at one point that they would give us discounted rates to make up for the aggravation. This did not happen. At this date over 3 weeks afterwards, one of my traveling companions has still been billed more than we were quoted before our arrival and the hotel considers the issue resolved. Beware. Pay cash.

Fort Davis has a number of things to go see - the Fort Davis National Historic Monument, the Fort Davis state park (great to go watch the sun set and stars come out!) and the McDonald Observatory. Marfa and Alpine are two towns close by that are worth visiting. The northern most entrance to Big Bend National Park is also only about an hour and a half away

Not a whole lot to do here, but what is here is great!

Not a whole lot to do here, but what is here is great! We didn't hike but there were several hiking/ nature options in the area. McDonald Observatory is absolutely worth the trip for anyone with as much as a passing interest in astronomy. The National Historic Site is very interesting and the park does a good job of addressing the uncomfortable and unsavory parts of the fort's history while celebrating the bright parts. Good selection of family friendly activity options here! There are not that many options for eating here, especially if cost is a factor. The drugstore is great and has a variety of choices (we ate there twice) but it can fill up quick. Several places serve heaping scoops of Blue Bell ice creams!

it is nice to have a break from a standard corporate hotel. This area is so charming. I like how they have the history displayed in the foyer/lobby. The restaurant here is gourmet quality. It is a good thing because you won’t find a McDonald’s out there. I tried to make it to the McDonald observatory, but it just didn’t work out.

I like that it’s a historic hotel that has done a good job of keeping its old charm. It was only a one night stay, however, this hotel served our needs well. Well enough that we will return when we stay for more days on our next trip through the Davis mountains.

Cute historic hotel right in the middle of town. Very large rooms that are furnished with antiques. The restaurant and coffee shop attached are both good as well. The hotel is definitely haunted so just keep that in mind!

Quiet and comfortable chalet just outside Fort Davis. There is also an option to dine in the cafe at breakfast. We stayed two nights and really liked it. Friendly, helpful staff. Not far into the great little town.

Owner when out of his way to allow early check-in which left us the day to explore Fort Davis. Breakfast was superb - showed real effort to please guests even during the COVID restrictions. Outstanding!

The upgrades to the rooms were nice. Breakfast was small but sufficient. If you could, please bring back the little fire pit you used to have near the front. We really enjoyed sitting around the fire.
