This is a traditional Japanese ryokan, designed for relaxation rather than meeting conventional hotel criteria such as being near other tourist attractions or train stations. Located in a remote area, reaching the ryokan requires some planning if you are not driving. First, take a train from Koriyama Station to Aizu-Wakamatsu Station, then transfer to a local train heading to Ashinomaki Onsen Station. From there, you will need to reserve a seat on the ryokan's shuttle bus. Use Booking.com's chat feature for reservations, as phone staff had limited English and my Japanese is basic. Also note that public transportation options are limited and you will spend a lot of your time in the ryokan which is perfect for relaxation. You may wish to consider taking taxis within the area. If you are afraid of the cost, you can check with the driver before boarding. The location is ideal, offering beautiful views of mountains and valleys, as well as the chance to enjoy an onsen. Note that this is a small town with few to no dinner choices nearby, so purchasing the hotel’s dinner buffet is advisable. It offers over 40 options. Unfortunately, it was 6600 YEN per person since we ordered them ala-carte. The onsen itself was very relaxing, though there was little guidance provided for first-time users - I believe that most visitors are Japanese. Thankfully, we had previous experience, so it wasn’t an issue for us. Staff were very friendly too. This far away ryokan makes it a great escape for those seeking tranquillity.

The whole experience staying for 2 nights up in the mountain and it was snowing in april. Staff were most willing to assist and make things work. Clean and comfortable environment throughout the hotel.

The Onsen was beautiful.

The new building was renovated in April 2017 and boasts spacious rooms with an elegant decor. The bed was so comfortable that we stayed an extra night. The buffet is worth it!
